Leisure Arts Easy-Does-It Swedish Weave Towels Book- Traditional Swedish Weaving is also known as huck weaving. This weave became popular in America in the 1940's when crafters used embroidery floss to decorate the borders of huck towels. Swedish weaving is usually done on a fabric known as monk's cloth. This fabric has a surface with raised threads that form squares—and allows designs to be symmetrical. Other fabrics with an even weave, such as Aida cloth or huck toweling, can also be used. You will generally use embroidery floss or yarn, along with a blunt-ended yarn needle, the size and type of which are determined by the size of the squares on your fabric. You will also need a pattern and a pair of scissors. Your pattern will usually give instructions on the type of cloth, yarn, and needle to use to replicate the pattern results. With a little experience, you will be able to adapt the design to other fabrics if desired. Today, Swedish Weave stitching can also be used to make table runners, afghans, pillows, placemats, and more. This instructional guide will not only show you how to complete 12 traditional patterns, but will also give you tips for success, floss guides, and more. Designs include: harvest stitch, Victoria, reflections, and more. 20 pages, soft cover.

I bought this and then a dozen huck towels. The instructions and charts are clear and concise. The patterns are easy and inspire some creativity. I'm hooked! It will be even better on a better fabric.

I used to make these embroidered towels as a kid under my mother’s instruction. Could not find the huck toweling locally to make them. My sister found an on line retailer for the toweling and of course I went to Amazon for a pattern book. I am very familiar with leisure arts publishing as I am a knitter . I trusted my gut they would be the ones to give the needed instructions clearly and simply. I was right !

This one is good reading and making I have to do some time soon. This has an older book that I have been looking for!

The instructions are very minor, not even a full page. If you're expecting to be able to do the project from just this, you won't be able to. There's no needle, and no thread. Consider this the fabric and pattern for the 1 project. NOT a beginner's kit to learn how to do huck embroidery.

I’m an experienced cross-stitcher, and this was my first Swedish weaving project. I finished it in two days, and am super impressed with the ease, symmetry and beauty of this craft. The instructions were clear, but if you’re confused about something, there are YouTube tutorials you can search for. You’ll also need to purchase a 6-pack of #24 tapestry needles, a needle threader, and 2 skeins of embroidery floss (the color is your choice—not included in the kit). I’ve never needed a needle threader before, but threading an entire six-strand section of floss is difficult without one. I also broke 4 needles (the side of the eye broke) on this project, so be sure you have a pack. That’s also never happened to me with cross-stitching, but you normally separate the floss in cross-stitching, so there’s less pressure on the needle eye.I LOVED completing this project, and will buy more towels and thread & re-use the pattern to make more.

I would not call it a kit by any means, and the description is a bit misleading. It says it includes “everything you need”, but if you keep reading it says towel, instructions and SUPPLY LIST. On the back of the kit it says you need to purchase your own embroidery floss, tapestry needle and marking pen separately. On a positive note, the pattern and instructions are clear and printed nice and large, though I am not sure I would understand the instructions if I had not previously done huck weaving before. Overall, it seems like a poor value for what you are getting. I also purchased the 12 pattern book, which again, has nice large patterns and instructions. In retrospect, I would probably just get the pattern book and look for a multi-pack of towels to go with it.

Item was billed as a kit, and description included a towel. Only the book was shipped. The book seems a good basic intro to Swedish weave techniques. Listing should be changed to only include the pattern book.
