Anyone with limited kitchen counter and storage space knows that every new item has to be weighed between how much space it takes up vs. how useful it is. Having used a variety of ricers, mashers and mills in professional kitchens, I knew a ricer would up my mashed potato game and after a recent batch of lumpy, gluey mash (and a tired arm), I decided a ricer was worth the cubic inches. The footprint is very large, but every ricer is going to take up a certain amount of space. They could be more compact if the basket was collapsible (any clever engineers out there can have this idea royalty-free and I will volunteer to test your prototype :).It comes in a large, solid box, good for storage, and the ricer itself is very solid. At 1.75lbs, it may be too heavy for some older or younger cooks, but easily managed by most, and the handles are comfortable with no sharp edges. Unlike some of the other models' reviews, it would be difficult to bend or twist the handles with normal use. Simple to clean and it should hold up very well for many years.I have tested this by ricing cooked potatoes and also pressing curd for cheese (with a piece of cheesecloth or coffee filter lining the inner pot). It was great as a mini-press, but not so great as a ricer because of the non-fixed disc. The disc sticks to the bits of skin or potato eyes left behind on the circular presser, so the disc comes up stuck to the presser each time you lift the handle and has to be replaced in the pot after each go. If the other discs were useful to me, I could overlook this, but since they are not, the nuisance of readjusting the disc after each go is a deal breaker. This was under fifteen dollars when I purchased it, and it is a quality build for the price. I would recommend this ricer to anyone who will be utilizing the various discs, but I will be looking for comparable one with a solid pot, one that will earn its keep in my kitchen without any messing about.

I have never used a ricer before for mashed potatoes, and it made a huge difference! They were super creamy, and did not get the pasty gluey consistency of using a masher or electric mixer. Highly recommend the use of this product.

The handle is very long and it is ackward. It keeps hitting me in the head. The plates keep lifting up and stick to the potatoes. I bought it because I wanted a ricer that was easy to clean and it is . Maybe as it is used the plates will stay put. It is sturdy, I have been hit in the head enough to vouch for that.

It falls apart and is very difficult to use; it’s awkward and requires a lot of strength. It didn’t handle cooked cauliflower

My husband has wanted one of these for a while since he’s always in the kitchen and mashed potatoes are a staple for the holiday. He LOVES this potato masher… it’s perfect!
