My 2001 Cadillac fuel pump is held in place with a 5 lobed lock ring as shown in the attached picture. (Who on Earth decided that five lobes was a good idea? Why wasn't the ring made from stainless steel? And why doesn't someone make a proper removal tool?) Anyway, my ring was original and rusty, and as far as I know, nobody makes proper tool to aid in its removal. This is the closed I could find and, with some struggling, it worked. In my case, the rusty outer tabs of the lock ring immediately buckled, but I was able to grab onto the inner circle at 2 spots at a time, and adjust the fingers such that the axis of rotation was along the centerline. Then, I used a T-handle driver to torque the old ring off, assisted by lots of penetrant and occasional banging with a hammer and mallet. For removal, the tool wasn't perfect, but it was the best I could find. For putting the replacement on, the tool was wonderful; since the lobes on the replacement lock ring weren't buckled and rusty, the Lisle tool worked beautifully to screw and unscrew the ring. Tip: Use a little grease on the top of the lock ring so it turns easily. In summary, this tool wasn't perfect for my application, but it got me out of a jam, and it's the only game in town.

I'm a professional mechanic and bought this because it had an extra set of legs and was adjustable making it a universal lock ring tool. Used it on the gas tank from a 2013 Chevy HD3500 Duramax and it took a breaker bar to lock the ring. The tool stood up to the task and got the job done with no visible signs of distortion or damage to the tool or the lock ring.

Wing nuts are hard to tighten and won’t hold adjustment- replace with hex nuts then tighten with wrench.

Used it twice in the first week on two different style tanks. Wish I had bought this year's ago. It makes things so much easier.

I though it would be more necessary for this tool, but a hammer and screwdriver work just about the same. If you don’t find yourself replacing a fuel pump more then once a year or two you could probably go without it.

Used on my 2000 Cadillac. I used the three tab extensions on the tool but when squeezed on lock ring would only engage two of the tabs.. I used a breaker bar inserted between extensions like a pry bar down by the cars sheet metal. In this case the two tabs engaged are not 180 degrees apart so this keep the tool from slipping off. This only worked because this car had a trunk access plate.

Got it thinking it would be useful for more than the fords I usually work on. Bulkier than the ones I normally would use I though it would work on other brands. First time I went to use it on a ram diesel tank lift fuel pump it would not fit. Hammer and chisel worked. Disappointed

The product does not have wide enough gap for Ford Escape fuel pump module lock ring. Had to use a hack saw and grinder to widen the notches.
