Makes for a clean install of newel posts onto an existing hardwood surface. Requires the use of a router and some pretty steady hands. This also requires at least 1 1/2" of combined thickness of finished floor and sub floor. Keep in mind that when installing this on existing hardwood floors that there is a better than good chance you will come across nails and or screws. I am very happy with the finished results and would highly recommend this post fastener for those seeking a clean finished, yet solid install.

This is about the most perfect product for this application you could hope for. I would add that doing business with Stair Parts Connect was a pleasure. The owner went way out of his way to help me out, he actually met me halfway to deliver the items in person. Now that is service!!!!

The bracket is about 3/8†thick. It has to be recessed into the floor (or newel post). If you are using this just on a subfloor, you will need to add blocking under the area for strength. Most subfloors are 3/4â€. Recessing the bracket will give you 3/8†on subfloor in that spot. The floor in that area will fail and the post will rip out if pulled on.Rather than use a router, I used a forstner bit (flat bottom drill bit) to remove the bulk, then a blade and a chisel to clean up the area.In the 2 areas I used these brackets, I had to add blocking underneath.

Decided to use this instead of the other option of a long lag screw. This was easy to interspersed and the directions were clear. It is sturdy and I have no regrets with this

Exactly what we needed to install our new newel post. This product is very easy to install with the right tools.Love the hidden locking mechanism at the base of the post. Allowed for the appearance I was hoping for without losing the support.

This fixed up my old wobbly newel post to better than new. It's easy to use, and in my opinion, way stronger than a traditional style post plate.

Worked great, have to be careful to locate properly since the post is tapped tight into place. Pulls the post tight with almost no give to it.Very pleased.
