A Meinl one would be less expensive. And would last as long, probably. I went with LP just because.The "sound" and tone is pure, clean and has that classic flamenco clap.I am using like a tambourine on the off beats right now.As far as a straight 8th notes or 16th groove.... haven't done it yet. still getting used to it.You can not play "figures".... or at least i can't.Nice tool to add to the groove box.

These castanets on a stick make it easy to generate complex rhythms, and they are loud enough (with a delightful bright wood sound) to fill a room or to use outdoors. They can't really be played softly, so keep a rhythm egg handy for quieter times. Different woods make different sounds, but rosewood is particularly pleasant to my ears.

Very nice professional orchestral castanets. LP makes fine products. Highly recommended.

I have a set of castanets from years ago. We needed another pair so not to have to pass around the old ones. These have a good sound but they don't "flap" as easily as the old ones. I won't sent them back but wish they were a little more agile. Perhaps its getting use to them.

Exactly what I needed for the toddler. Durable, wonderful sound. Recomend for anyone.! Beautiful wood! We have for at least a year if not more and does not have any damage to it.

First impression:👀 These are some reasonable sounding castanets. The clappers make a sharp noise, which can be deadened using your fingers. I am no virtuoso but there is a good range of expression available. Castanets require some technique to play and it definitely requires more than flailing about to achieve a good rhythm, and different percussive patterns. The technique is different than for finger castanets and with the handle requires less preparation.What I liked:âœ”ï¸ Tension is about right for a good sound. Any tighter and the action is deadened significantly.âœ”ï¸ The handle is comfortable to hold.âœ”ï¸ Good enough sound and enough range for get some different tones with muting.Anything I didn’t like so much:⌠The finish is not as rich looking as some castanets out there but it at least allows the natural wood to be more visible.Conclusion:✅ For me these worked well and are a great addition to my percussive collection. I am mainly a stringed instrument player and the group sometimes plays tunes with a different style. I am just waiting for a call out for a flamenco style and I am going to whip out these castanets.
