This was the correct part/fit for a L31 engine, A.K.A. the GM Vortec 5700 (fuel injected gen-1 350), on a 1999 Suburban... this engine has a one-piece rear main seal, so the transmission has to be removed to get to it. You don't have to remove the oil pan. I had the transmission out already... removed the flexplate, picked out the old seal with a small screwdriver, and put the new one in, very easy. I didn't remove the bracket from the back of the engine block, so didn't use the other four-bolt gasket in the kit.
