I have two doors from the house to the garage that by code need to be spring loaded and automatically close. For years the doors have had spring loaded hinges that “slam the door shutâ€. Adjusting the tension on the hinge springs does not help - either they slam with a loud noise ( tightened spring) or they don’t completely close ( less tight spring). This door closure mechanism solves the problem by having a two step closure with each step being adjustable for speed of closure. By adjusting these closure speeds you can make the door close with minimal noise.A couple of hints: 1. The instructions are confusing but there are good installation videos on YouTube.Use the template to determine where to drill the holes - it’s a lot faster and easier than measuring .Overall this works much better than spring hinges for about the same cost. Only downside is that the mechanism looks a bit industrial, so it’s good for utility rooms, garage door access, but probably not something you would put in a formal room.

I had never installed a door closer in my life. I consider myself pretty handy, so when the State Elevator Inspector told me we had to have an automatic door closer on our rooftop Condo building elevator motor room, I decided to do it myself. I looked at many door closers online, and saw the prices ranged quite a bit from low to high, with little that I could see to make much of a difference. This brand and model was one that caught my eye due to price and it looked well made. Before making the purchase, I looked at several YouTube videos on how to install a door closer. As luck would have it, I found a video that featured this exact same door closer. I watched it about 10 times, paying close attention to how it was mounted. There are some "must do" things to do when installing these devices, that you would have no way of knowing if you look at the directions. They're not easy to interpret. Anyway, after I knew the process by heart from watching the video, I installed it in about 15 minutes, and it works perfectly!! Mission accomplished. I can recommend this product as well as the video.

The instructions come with a template that I found unhelpful. I ended up using the measurements listed rather than the template. Overall, it works well--I'm still tweaking the adjustments to get that perfect motion and latching.

This is my first door closer, so I spent a lot of time looking at the installation videos on what now I think is a fairly simple device. I like this one because it's low profile and white, it fits in well. I like it that it has and overall door closing speed, as well as a latch speed to make sure that it doesn't slam. The instructions were fairly clear, and it included the right kind of screws for installing in a metal door like I have. I'm definitely going to recommend this to my neighbors. Once the door closer is installed, it does take a little bit of getting used to: the door feels "heavier" when in fact that is just the resistance from the mechanism. One mistake I made during installation was aligning the arm at 90° to the door closer as opposed to the adjustable portion of the arm. I had to uninstall the arm several times before I figured it out. Making sure the adjustable part of the arm is 90° to the door is important to make sure that the door closer pushes the door all the way closed to the latch point.

The First Door Closer We Received was Open and Leaking Oil all Over the Place missing all the hardware, Amazon Immediately Fixed that and Sent Out Another. The 2nd One that Came in Worked Amazingly but We Found Has 15 Pounds of Resistance not 5 Pounds today before I left this review. I found another Review about that Today. This Product is actually for Outside Door not, Inside Interior Door. There are 2 Screws that can be Adjusted for Speed Labeled 1 and 2 with a FlatheadSweep speedThe sweep speed of a door is the speed taken for the door to move between 150 degrees and 18 degrees. If the door is closing too quickly or slowly, the door closers sweep speed can be adjusted to offer a more suitable pace.To adjust a door closer with this function, locate the sweep speed valve on the door closer and rotate the valve clockwise to decrease the speed, or anticlockwise to increase it (always consult your door closer’s instructions as methods of adjustment may vary). Ensure that you take time to test its functionality until the correct rate at which it opens and closes, is found.Latching speedThe latching speed of a door is the speed taken for the door to close and latch shut over the last 15 to 0 degrees of its closing phase. As one of the most crucial stages of the closing process, if this phase is too slow the door may not latch, whilst allowing it to close too fast could create a finger-trapping hazard.Unfortunately, there's No 3rd Screw for the tension to lower the Pound Pressure of the door down to 3 or 5 pounds. Our Dog whose very big and strong 150 pounds she can't open the door it hurts her Snout and My mother Who I originally bought it for has a extremely hard time opening it because its 15 pounds not 2.5 to 5 which is ADA Compliant for Handicap people. The Directions are so so but there's a great template you can use for the Screws ignore most the rest of the Instructions and the template save you from pulling your Hair Out to Install it. one of my Gripes because they charge extra for the top Mounting Plate and do not Include it but have it in the Direction's it had be put on the Door. We have a metal Door which is not able to handle the Weight of this Door Closer and has Less than a few days almost fully ripped the screws out of the Door. So, I went back and got some Anchors and Put in the door and they to now have started pulling out Because the sheet metal on the door is to thin and the Door Closer is extremely heavy duty and well Built and Vacuumed sealed with the Oil.So if your Ordering this Have a Interior Metal door Make sure to Order the top Bracket to Separately or you may have the Other Problems a fix is what I wanted to do but my Mom wouldn't allow me to was put a Hole all the way through the door with 4 large bolts coming in. because she wouldn't allow that I bought Anchors there Holding up but the Sheet metal isn't with the amount of force and Pressure this door Closer uses with the Weight we won't be able to keep it. I was Torn Between a 3 or 4 because the Seller sold a Amazing Product its listed about not Including the top Brackett which would be nice, they fixed the first Bad shipment it happens especially around the Holidays maybe was built on a Monday at the Plant. The product works as advertised but what they don't specify is that it's not ADA Compliant its 15 pounds of Pressure which is used for a Exterior Heavy door not Inside House Door. The ADA Compliant is the biggest problem a Building Inspector will Fail the door Immediately and on the spot for any Interior inside door if you're in wheelchair good luck trying open the door with this. Now on their website and on other YouTube videos they seem to have ones that are ADA compliant maybe, but this particular one isn't and that's a Deal breaker it was bought for that so will be returned. I decided to give a 3 since product works as advertised for a outside door and very well made, you're not able to do Maintenace put refill of Oil latter. So when it stops working you have to throw it away or hope the warranty is still good. But 15 Pounds and the Non-ADA Compliant. I can't forgive that so a 3 it may work for you for me its fine but for family or used in business or for a Handicap person it's not.

In case you’re wondering if this will close a steel patio door (one half of a French door), it will. You will need to adjust the closing speed using the small inset screws labeled 1 and 2. Turning both counter clockwise will increase the closing speed. Turning counterclockwise, screw 1 will increase the speed when fully open and screw 2 will increase the speed when it is slightly opened. I turned 2 almost all the way out and I turned 1 slightly faster as well to increase the speed so the door slams shut without being too fast. You can really adjust it.It also comes with a handy door frame mounting plate in case your door is not parallel with the door frame like most steel patio doors are. There are two templates for mounting including - one for the vertical installation when the door is flush with the frame, and one for the installation that uses a mounting plate on the inset of the door frame. One thing to note: it does not have a “lock to open door†mode so you cannot push it to go into an open position. It will always pull the door close but you can adjust it so it doesn’t actually close the door and leaves it slightly opened by adjusting the previously described screw 2 which can slow down the speed when the door is slightly open (less than 15 degrees) according to the paper guide.
