I found some really great videos on creating my own macrame hanging chair as I do have hanging chair frames (and chairs) in my yard. I'm not saying anything bad about the hanging chairs I have, but I have been wanting to make one that is MY chair, from scratch. I used to knot macrame hangers all the time, but have never made a chair. The videos I watched advised that I use one of these "thimbles" for the main hanging element. I have 16 strands of macrame cord laid in the hollow of the thimble to give me 32 working strands AFTER I "hide" those thimble strands under a layer of square knots and then a gathered "noose" knot to hold the strands in place. This thimble gives my hanging macrame chair the strength at the top to hold the weight of me or another person who sits in my finished chair. The thimble worked great!

These are heavy duty but not sized right. The 3/8" thimble is more designed for a 1/2" rope.
