Since I learned about using Maxima from the guides at the Naknek River Camp in Alaska, where I landed trout to 30" on it, I've been experimenting with it for streamer fishing. Instead of using a tapered leader with tippet, I just connect a 4-5 foot piece of Maxima with a perfection loop to the fly line loop. It casts nicely, saves money, and has only broken under the most extreme circumstances. Recently landed several rainbows in the 22-23" range here in Utah using 12lb fluoro; I put a lot of pressure on those fish without any problems. I just tie a perfection loop on the leader wheel at home and then cut off the length I need in the field so I'm ready to change leaders quickly. Haven't tried it for nymphing but I will.

Been using this as a leader on 40# braid for years. Haven’t had a break off yet, easy to tie, holds well. Just make sure you check occasionally for knicks especially after a toothy catch like pike, muskies or mother-in-laws.
