Anything you'd expect out of a belay carabiner, this thing does. Clips around your belay loop--big time. THEN lets you feed the belay loop through that second lil gate so you don't cross streams/crossload. The locking gate has a strong spring and the screw is real smooth. I can see why people are saying it's a bit cumbersome to load and unload, but like, cmon. You didn't buy this so you could do carabiner speedruns, you bought it to not murder your friend with gravity, and this will help you do that big-time.I run a Jul2 on mine and it plays real nice. Bites the rope hard. So like... yeah. Metolius at it again with the not-flashy-but-sound-af gear.

So I've had a Gridlock for a couple of years. I liked it OK but was always irritated with the fact that the guard mechanism was tied into the gate. The Gatekeeper is far superior in that the guard is independent of the gate. With the Gatekeeper I don't have to worry about dropping my ATC while I'm fiddling around with the gate open trying to get the guard mechanism off of my belay loop.Separately the Gatekeeper works just fine with a GriGri 1 and a GriGri 2. It slides over the nose and onto the top of the carabiner with no issues and you can belay just fine. However, the GriGri will not make the turn at the top apex of the carabiner. So what that means is you cannot readily rack a GriGri on the Gatekeeper onto your harness. You'll need to use another racking carabiner and then switch to the Gatekeeper to belay. This really isn't much different than the Gridlock which worked poorly with GriGri's. Recall that BD recommend you turn the Gridlock upside down (stupid) to belay with the GriGri.

Used for lead climbing, this is a good anti-crosa loading device. Note, the screw lock is fairly stiff and can't be spun to lock / unlock it quickly, it has to be turned several times to completely lock / unlock.

I purchased this to hand my water off my bag...I know its for climbing but its working out great and super strong and will definitely be of use for years to come!

Fantastic belay-biner. It definitely keeps the belay device oriented properly as opposed to a biner with no lower gate. It's worked well with my ATCs and original GriGri.

Perfect carabiner for belaying. It never cross-loads and works even better with a gri-gri. The shape stops the Gri-gri from moving around on the carabiner. The colour is very vibrant and the screwgate is super smooth and clean.

Screw lock diameter is too small, brake assist devices can slip right over the lock and the "Widened spine" creating the worst possible type of cross load. This carabiner is lighter and thinner than most, cheap metal.
