What is lava rock:
- Naturally occurring, these lava rocks are formed as volcanic magma rises to the surface, cools and releases gases which gives these rocks their coarse surface.
- Because they are volcanic, they can withstand extremely high temperatures without sustaining any damage or crumbling.
- No artificial color added. Natural black lava rock with hints of browns and grays.
- Granules are small and vary in size from 1/4" to 1/2" in diameter. The same size OEM log sets use.

Just what I expected. Completed the look in our fireplace and arrived quickly. Actually should’ve gotten the smaller bag. But the price was still an excellent value. Highly recommend these rocks for your gas fireplace.

While a bit pricey, this is hands down the best lava rock I’ve encountered, and I’ve purchased many variants in quest of my holy grail. Many brands upon receipt are found not to match photos in terms of rock size, color, and/or uniformity. Frustrating! By contrast, this slate-grey rock is true to size (1/4 to 1/2â€) and uniformity, and contains very low levels of dust/powder. Prior to use, I transferred the rock to a 5-gal bucket, and addressed with a leaf blower on very low throttle. Dust-B-Gone! The stone is noticeably damp upon removal from the sealed bag, so I recommend a few days aeration/drying (sun, wind) prior to handling and dust removal. (Proper drying might also assist in eliminating the reported explosive, popcorn behavior of some lava-rock products exposed to high temperatures). Couldn’t be happier with this purchase. Using as a floor adornment for an in-house fireplace. Looks great! Excellent product!
