As a person who has played tuba seriously for about sixty years I have a large assortment of mouthpieces on-hand and am always trying to find more to try out. Different mouthpieces have different strength and weaknesses as far as how easily they play and how well they sound in different registers (pitch ranges). How any particular mouthpiece works is also highly variable depending on the oral anatomy of any given tubist. I noticed that another reviewer said that this mouthpiece has a slightly smaller diameter than "standard" tuba mouthpieces. I didn't measure it, but it surely feels like that is correct. This makes it a little weak in the lower range.However, believe it or not, tuba players are sometimes expected to play outside our comfort zones in much higher registers than normal to add certain unique sound "color" to some pieces. This is especially true in orchestral music. I tried this mouthpiece this evening during a break at orchestra practice and found it to be really outstanding for playing high notes. I am much better than most tuba players at playing high notes anyway, but this mouthpiece made a remarkable improvement in my accuracy and control in the higher ranges. This is consistent with what I would expect from a narrower mouthpiece, but I was surprised at how noticeable the improvement was.Within the past year I have been helping at a middle school music program, coaching kids that want to learn tuba. A common problem with new tuba players is being able to hit notes in the high-normal range. I think this mouthpiece might be a real help for those students and look forward to letting them try it out. This mouthpiece seems to be well made and the price is unbeatable. Highly recommend.

As a band teacher, I'm always in the search for more tuba players, so finding mouthpieces at a decent price is great! The "standard" mouthpiece that comes with most of our tubas we've bought is a 24AW, and that's what I have to compare this against. It's marked as an 18T, so I assumed it would be a little bit bigger than the 24 (according to my quick research on Bach tuba mouthpieces). Instead, it's actually a little smaller diameter.My 24AW measured 31mm (inner cup diameter), and this measured 30mm. It is also about 5mm shallower than my 24AW.Playing, I don't notice much difference, but I'm a trombone-playing band teacher, not a tuba specialist, so I don't think my lips would notice the 3% size difference.It has a smooth, well-polished finish, and will hopefully hold up for years of service. If I start to experience issues earlier than expected, I'll circle back and revise my review.
