I bought this because it was the best value I could find. DE is DE, so I don't care what brand, just wanted the best value. This works as it should and is well packaged.

DE is added to your pool filter by volume (typically 1 lb plastic measuring cup). Since DE is sold by weight, I recommend Dicalite DE as it is significantly drier than the plastic-bagged DE sold locally. In other words, I get more cups of DE from a 50 lb bag of Dicalite than the 50 lb bag of wet/damp DE. Pricing from Amazon is excellent and delivery is only a couple of days.

Did you know...this is diatomaceous earth, the same stuff recommended for controlling fleas and other unpleasant blood-sucking insects (mostly fleas, though). We had a nasty outbreak with the barn cats, so bad I couldn't walk into the barn in flip-flops without a dozen fleas attached to my ankles. The process of going nuclear on them (the fleas, not the cats) involved generous gallons of Suspend insecticide and about 50 lbs of Dicalite powder. It's a big barn, and this was the most economical way to make the floor look like it had snowed inside. Needless to say, the fleas were gone in short order. The leftover powder will work well if we ever get that pool my kids have always dreamed of.
