1st Non Vine, Self Paid Review.Frontier finally offering Fiber on my neighborhood. As I was upgrading my network to accommodate the upcoming 2gb down/up service. I noticed my Hitron MoCA adapters were 2.5gb on the coax but running 1gb on ethernet. I upgraded everything to 2.5 hardware such as switch, AP and Router and network cards on servers and workstations.I bought 1 set of the Kiwee MoCA that runs 2.5gb on coax and Ethernet. I got them to work after a bit of trial and error. The User Interface is simple with a bit more options and at the same time not as intuitive as the Hitron User Interface. The instructions are not as not plentiful on information on the website and or the paper manual. The website does not have firmware yet or setup up guides only FAQs. Here is one FAQ that stood out for me."Is your product MoCA certified by the MoCA Certification Board ?Not yet. Now only Maxlinear is making MoCA2.5 chip (Hitron has a unit that does 2.5 both coax and ethernet). Their reference board has passed MoCA 2.5 certification. Our product is based on their MoCA 2.5 chip, MxL3710. So we don’t need to do the certification again."It seems main website is a wordpress site. No shade just my observation. Not much on how to set these up on YouTube either. The Hitron units were straight forward and did not struggle to get them to work a few minutes out of the box. The Kiwee unit took me almost 20-30minutes until I stumbled on the Key and enable and disabled other channels. Hitron did not have much selection on channels only one and pretty straight forward which would be great for a novice. I am not a network novice, I have a degree and certs and do this on the daily at my day job.MoCA is supposedly backwards compatible. I got the Kiwee MoCa working on my network and my Hitron units stopped working. I copied the settings from the Hitron to the Kiwee and no connectivity. I did it backwards whatever I setup on Kiwee worked on other kiwee but not on Hitron. I triple checked the security keys and channels and nothing would make them talk to each other. I replaced the remaining Hitron units with Kiwee and all work now. I wanted to go with Hitron but Hitron on their 2.5gb coax and ethernet only had one input for coax I needed the 2nd coax to connect to the Cable Modem for now while Frontier gets me setup in 2 weeks. So far I had them for about a week. I had to reboot them once so far. I couldn't tell if Spectrum slowed my internet or it was the Kiwees? After rebooting the Modem and Master Kiwee unit all works fine. The Hitron units rarely rebooted the units the whole time since I purchased them June of last year 2024. I dislike being an early adopter but had to take a chance to be ready for the new internet service coming soon. Not many reviews on this unit yet other than VINE Reviews. This is the only unit that has 2 coax and 2 2.5Ethernet ports. Hitron unit for 2.5 has one Coax and 1 Ethernet both at 2.5gb. I am skeptical on these units until time proves me otherwise. I hope there are updates and more support to these units on the website.

I have had a bonded MoCA 2.0 network in my office, living room and bedroom where my router is located for over 8 years. During this time I have not had to reset them a single time, they just work and they work well. My setup includes an ethernet switch in my living room so I can connect multiple devices to the internet. I jumped on the chance to acquire these MoCA 2.5 adapters. Theoretically they should be much faster but unfortunately I was only able to achieve a 1 Gbps link between them, the same as my old MoCA adapters. I am by no means an IT expert so It was off to the internet to see if I could figure out was wrong. After some research I determined that all of the adapters on the network needed to be MoCA 2.5 to achieve the fastest speeds. No problem, I'll just purchase another one but for the time being I removed my old slower adapter and I was still only getting a 1 Gbps link speed. So after further research I determined that all components in the network needed to have 2.5 Gbps ports, your router, switches etc.. This would require a significant investment on my part as my mesh system is practically new. A router with 2.5 ports is a high end router and will be expensive. I'd be willing to bet that most of us have the older 1 Gbps ethernet ports on our routers. So at least I'm future proof and when the time comes to purchase a new router I'll make sure it's compatible. In the few days I've had these 2.5 MoCA adapters up and running they have performed flawlessly and I like them. If your considering upgrading to a MoCA 2.5 network make sure your other equipment is compatible or be prepared to upgrade the rest of your network. I didn't remove any stars due to my slower connection speeds due to it being a problem with my equipment and not these MoCA adapters.

I'm not sure how typical my use case is for these MoCA adapters, but it does solve a (first world) problem for me. My home is wired for cat5, and in the rooms where it is available it is great. Unfortunately, many areas of the house don't have the wiring for cat5; instead, the bedroom and living room has coax connections for cable TV hookup. For these areas I've been using wireless and it is perfectly serviceable: 200mbps, no dead zones. But I wanted better, and these MoCA adapters let me leverage that existing coax wiring that was unused. (I do not have cable internet or TV.) Fortunately, I have a small "data closet" where my fiber connection, ethernet, and coax wiring all come together. I was able to put one MoCA adapter here and connect it to my network switch. Next, I connected the MoCA coax to the multiplexer's input at the closet. This sends my ethernet connection (via the MoCA) to all the coax outputs in all the rooms. It takes the place of a typical cable internet/TV signal from a provider except in my case the "provider" is my network switch. The MoCA signal is internal to my home so no concerns about sending my internet traffic to my neighbors. I then connected the second MoCA box at any of the other coax outputs and plug my device(s) into either of the two ethernet ports. Physical setup was pretty easy. However, the software setup will probably be annoying for a novice. By default the MoCA does not have DHCP enabled, so the MoCA as well as any devices you connect to it are isolated and without internet access unless you happen to use the 192.168.144.x network. I think this is the biggest failing - anyone hoping for plug and play will be disappointed. It would've made more sense to have DHCP enabled, and after turning that on I was online. (To make the configuration change you do need to put yourself on the 192.168.144.x network and connect to MoCA as instructed in the manual.) The MoCA's web interface is simplistic, but usable.Once I got it set up I ran another speed test and was getting 600mbps, so 3x the wireless speed. To me, the hassle of the set was worth it.
