As I was replacing the cartridge (Moen 1222) I tried to use shut-off valves built into the faucet and one of them (on the cold side) started leaking after I turned it 90 degrees. After I turned off water in the entire house and pulled out the horse-shoe pin that was holding the gasket in place, I removed the gasket (this product) from its socket and upon inspection found that the o-ring part of the rubber was defective. I called Moen and they told me they would send a free set of the gaskets (since they provide life-time warranty for all their products). Since I was not sure how long it would take, I simultaneously ordered the this set from Amazon for $13. As both packages arrived, comparison showed that the parts that came from Moen appeared to have pitch-black new-looking rubber, while parts that came from Amazon had some white dust or coating on them. You can see some of that white stuff on the Amazon photograph. I was not sure what that white stuff was, maybe it was a thin layer of grease that absorbed some water and turned white, maybe something else, but it looked suspicious and I decided to use the part that Moen sent and kept the other set in case I need it in the future. So, long story short, I did not have a chance to use it yet but I am giving it 4 stars for the suspicious white stuff covering black rubber. Bottomline: try to get your set directly from Moen first, they appear to have "fresher" product and it will be free.
