This adapter does the trick, but it may need modifications based on what you are doing. I have read other reviews where the users have had issues - if you are a DIYer then a few mods will make it work. I have a standard old Moen valve and wanted a nicer updated Moentrol trim. I happen to select a square echelon which required mods to get it straight on the wall. This Adapter does the adaptation well for round echelon (the big trim plate) - did this in a downstairs bath. My master bath had a square echelon which required me to rotate the adapter to get things to really line up on the wall. I found that I had to drill out one of the mounting holes on the adapter (its soft brass so easy to do) to achieve the rotation I needed. I'll also warn you that when I did this, one of the four mounting holes or flanges on the value was then in the way for the screw from the echelon thru the backside of the adapter. I simply drilled that un-needed flange/hole on the value away too. Everything works great. Took a little work and understanding what needed to be done - but its now there for another 10+ years maybe more..I'll also note that I saw other posts thinking the new adapter mounting holes were the wrong distances apart. I did not find this issue when I lined them up in my hands. However if you followed the above description, when I tried to mounting things prior to the mods - the interfaces to the value gave me the impression the screws had to be at an angle (wrong distance) to be screwed in. It sure felt like the adapter wasn't going to work. But reviewing what was really happening was the screws were interfering with other things "in the wall", e.g. the value. Given the mods above everything is snug/secure and good to go.

The seller did his job perfectly! However, as some previous reviewers noted the adapter isn't perfect. Thanks for your reviews and the heads up as it made my job a lot easier. I "too" had to file down a part of the valve body, where the trim screws mate to it (like "ears" that stick out on either side) so that the new trim screws would not contact them as you tried to tighten the new trim in place. It felt as if the new screws were cross threading but they weren't and I didn't try to force it. About 5 or 10 minutes with a metal file taking off the corner of the "ear" and it works great! If you are a "do-it-yourselfer" you should not have any problems with using this if you have some warning of the issues in these reviews. By the way, If the extension/stop tube appears to be too long, you should be able to remove the new trim, slide the stop tube thru the adapter a bit more and remount the trim. You could even lube it a bit as it will get no pressure on it beyond the travel of the control valve. If it cannot be inserted further because it contacts the valve body I would call Moen and see if they can provide a shorter replacement. So far they have been terrific in helping me solve any issues I have with their products.

The adapter is a sturdy bronze piece. It easily screwed in the existing holes. The problem came in when I tried to put the new screws in for the face. I didn't notice it at first but the new screws where hitting the square corners on the valve. I took a dremel tool and rounded of the top let edge and lower right edge and bingo, even worked great.Nice to have updated hardware just be sure to check the clearance on the valve plate in the back where the new screws for the face plate attaches.

I bought this for my second bathroom update. On my first attempt, I thought changing bathroom fixtures would be simple enough. I was wrong. The nice shower fixtures I had purchased did not fit the current valve. Who knew valves did not have a universal fit? Life would be so much simpler if they did.. Luckily, my handy dad was in town and my simple bath fixture exchange turned into a trip to the hardware store to buy copper piping, a torch and its other components to replace the current valve. What a mess, but I learned my lesson. The shower on the second update had those acrylic knobs on it and I wanted something a little nicer. This time I looked at the model, found it was a Moen, did some research on which fit. Found none that I liked. Researched some more. Read about an adapter to fit some of their other models. Found one I liked and found the adapter and then it was a simple install. The way the first one should have been.... I didn't have any real problems installing it. I did have some problems with the way it sat, like some other reviewers mentioned, but I did some adjusting and it ended up working fine.

I have the older style moen chateau, the push /pull. The one with the holes on the plate at 5 and 7. The handle and plate I wanted was one that moved left right AKA posi-temp with the holes at about 2 and 7 So this little piece installed correctly ( yep, read directions ) made it so that I could use the set. LOVED THE ADAPTER. Worked like a charm. Would highly recommend and use again.

Did not fit with my new Moen cover. In the end I had to replace the valve too. The other was way too old and would not work with newer hardware.

One of the holes that connect to original mount was too tight. I had to make some adjustment to make it fit. Rest had no problem.

Brass adapter that none of the "Box" hardware stores carried. I had to go to Moen and get their telephone number and talked with them on what I needed to do to make my old shower become retrofitted for the new style that Moen offers now. This is a easy and cheap fix for that. Not having to cut out the copper lines and tearing wall down to replace the mixing valve. This product does come with 4 screws in case you through away the old screws there will be new ones. for all 4 holes which I was worried about and was thankful they were included.

Used to attach a moentrol handle to an old standard fixture. Holes lined up perfectly. Overpriced for what it is but a lot easier than replacing the fixture.

The holes line up for new tap covers, but the size of the opening in the adaptor is too small for the parts that attach to more modern shower taps. To use the new tap, you need to replace the cartridge with the one provided with the shower hardware and then don't need the adaptor. To make things worse, they didn't ship it for weeks then used the wrong method. The bathroom was down for two weeks.
