For those who may be new to the Montessori multiplication board, the way it is used is as follows: The child is given a problem, say five times 3. The child is instructed to place five beads on each of the first 3 vertical lines on the board--when the child has finished doing so, he or she can count the beads and see that five, multiplied three times, equals 15 beads.It is a very easy way to illustrate graphically to a child that multiplication is a special kind of adding--(5+5+5 = 5 x 3)--kids catch on very quickly and see the logic in multiplication right away.This board supports multiplication up to 10 x 10.It can also be used to illustrate division by,for example, giving the child a group of beads (say 15) and asking the child to divide them into three equal groups— putting the same number on each of the first three rows of the board. Then ask the child how many beads are on each row— so that the child can see that 15 beads divided into three groups equals 5 in each group—make sure to write out the problems so that the child understands 15 divided by 3 = 5.This board is beautifully made of solid wood and can be passed down from child to child in a family.

Very good quality. I almost bought another brand which sold both a division and the multiplication board as a set for the same amount of money, but after searching through reviews, I refrained. Glad I did, this board is very well crafted, beautiful finish. The spaces to put the beads in are deep enough that they don't easily roll away, yet not too deep that the idea of control of movement is lost. A child really has to focus on the task at hand, which is what Montessori material is all about.I'm a Montessori certified teacher, and love this quality. The beads are nice and bright red, smooth finish all around. The number cards are the correct size to insert into the designated slot, and the wooden disc is perfect as well.I highly recommend this product

Received it on time, I got 2 of them as birthday gifts and both kids loved it as they are attending Montessori here in IL. Prime shipping is a god sent gift to me as I cant keep up with dates and the inundating to do lists and birthdays. Its expensive but all montessori materials for some reason are like that. When I heard that the kid is enjoying and learning the multiplication, I think it was worth it. This is complex for a preschooler of age 4-5, but if the kid has advanced skills, they will understand and use it. For my kid I would recommend it at first grade level, but I got this for a 5 yr kid who is very advanced for his age. I will recommend this for ages 5-7.
