The Pozale Mosaic Block Puzzle is a delight. The wooden grid is genuine wood, not pressboard (as are some items claiming to be wood). The grid lines are a bit thin for children’s play, so the wood might eventually begin to chip off, but the entire board seems well glued, so perhaps with a little care, it will last.The pattern blocks are also real wood, with smoothly-painted surfaces.In writing this review, I sat down with the grid, the blocks, and one of the design cards, to test out how easily the blocks handled, how well they fit into the board, and how easy it might be for children to follow the patterns. Everything scored an A+.Entertainment value also earns a high grade. I planned to work with the toy for about 10 minutes, but suddenly realized I had been sitting for over 30, and had moved from following the design cards to creating my own images. Had the phone not rung, I might have been there much longer. (Should I admit that I am 70+ years old?)This is a quality toy, one that can be enjoyed by all ages (at least all over the age of 3-4, old enough to not put small objects in their mouths), one that children and grandparents can enjoy equally.Because many items from China – especially painted items – often contain lead, I tested the blocks with a home-use lead detection kit. I don’t know how sensitive or accurate my test kit is, but it showed no lead in the painted blocks; all the colors tested “negativeâ€. (In the past, the lead test has shown positive results on other products.) I did not test the grid because it is not painted, and I didn’t want to stain the exposed wood.The toy itself rates at least 5 stars, but because it is from CHINA, I cannot in good conscience give it more than 4.

I knew my littles would like this but I didn't realize how long they would. Usually kids get bored with the same toys but we are going on over a week and they still want to build things. The blocks are small, not too small to handle, but small enough that we pick up before our baby can be let down on the ground. The colors are nice, the board is even and smooth, I wish it came with more since we have multiple kids, but that's not the manufactors problem.
