The charging cable detaches at the point of contact w/ the "charging dock" and is otherwise just a microsb cable which makes the dock compatible for use with all the other microsb cables I have lying around.Garmin's own cables should've come like this from the factory, but as Garmin's greed continues to fuel proprietary chargers/ cables, this won't likely change anytime soon; on the other hand, these aftermarket replacement cables will do just fine if you're cool spending the $ on a backup charger.

I thought this was broken because the watch wasn't charging -- just a blank screen. To fix, I did the following: with watch not connected to the charger, press he following button combination for 15sec: Power (light), Down and Garmin (start/stop). - Plug into charger and everything seemed to work.

Works great for charging the Garmin Descent MK1. And the USB cable connection is something Garmin should have done.However, it does not connect via USB and so does not sync. So, for that reason, i give this 2 stars.
