Well this problem creeped up on me 6 months ago but only happened once and until last week had left me alone. Last week the old switch started getting stuck and after 2 times of getting it unstuck I decided I don't want to have to drill this thing out so I left the key in it, unhooked the battery, and ordered this from amazon with 1 day shipping.I then removed the old lock cylinder which had been replaced by the PO since it was a non-motorcraft brand. This was very easy to do once I received it. Installing the various tumblers till they set flat with the key in place took about 30 minutes was just like a puzzle not hard at all. Once that was done it was time to grease it up which I did then came the part of putting the clip on. This was by far the hardest part I don't know what they expect you to use to spread this thing apart but I ended up using the clip from the old one because I could not for the life of me get it spread apart enough to fit over the switch.Anyways after I finally got it I slipped it back in the hole and the car worked fine! No more stuck key no more problems turning. I love it very easy to fix yourself for $72 I could not be happier!

This is the thing you need if you have an older Ford Focus with the offset key hole on your ignition switch. Mine started to act up and after carefully looking through Google and searching some of the Ford Focus sites, I found out that it's a common problem. This ignition cylinder is the fix and I would say do it now, even if you're not having issues. Some day the key just won't turn. You don't want to wait until then. It will have to be drilled out to remove it and it's made mostly of hardened steel. Not an easy or simple job. This however is a relatively simple procedure. If your key still turns it's very easy to remove and swap it. This kit comes with all the tumblers you need, lithium grease and detailed instructions to key the cylinder to your car keys. It's fairly straight forward. Just take your time and it should be fine. I was able to key mine up in one go, in about 20 minutes. There's also a YouTube video for it. I had to have mine soon because my car was useless as it was. It was shipped and arrived the next day. I paid a little extra but a far cry from what the dealership was going to charge me. It would've been close to $500.00 CA, with taxes in. Just to buy the switch alone was going to be $165.00 CA, plus taxes. I did it for far less and if you're not in a hurry, you can even save more. I highly recommend this upgrade. This cylinder switch is much more robust and well made than the one that was in it from the factory. Should've been a recall from Ford, it's obviously faulty.

Had the not-uncommon problem of my ignition switch jamming on my 2002 Ford Focus ZX3. This kit lets you reuse your existing key. Other kits give you a new key, but then you have to reprogram the security system on your car to recognize the chip in your new key and you'll have different keys for the doors and ignition. So with this kit there is much less hassle. There are videos on youtube showing how to do this. Note that if you ignition is currently jammed you can only get the old cylinder out if you can turn the key. Put your key in the ignition and tap the key with the hammer a few times. It might loosen it up enough to turn. But if you can't you have to drill out the old cylinder. So here is how this works. You have to put the pins into the cylinder that match your key's pattern. If you went to a dealership for this, they would have a handy chart they could look you key up on and see which pins to use. But you can figure it out with trial and error. Without putting in any springs, just put a #1 pin in the first slot. Stick your key in and flip the cylinder upside down. The pin should be flush with what you are now seeing as the top of the cylinder. Again look on youtube for demonstrations. The only uncommon tool that would be really helpful to have is a pair of snap ring pliers. Amazon sells some for less than $10 and that would be totally worth it. I didn't have a pair and used regular pliers to spread the retaining clip. But that left me no hands with which to line up the cylinder and the clip. Took me about 20 minutes of trying to get the clip on and my hand ached at the end. So $10 would be totally worth it and save you 19 of those 20 minutes. But in terms of the product itself, fantastic. Been in my car for almost 2 months and works like a charm.

I was out at the park and went back to my car to find my key wouldn't work. Tried my two spare keys and they didn't work either. A Google search revealed that this is a not uncommon problem with the Ford Focus. Had the car towed home. Was able to unlock the ignition using an internet hack to put the key in the ignition and hit it with a hammer! Ordered this and 'programmed' it to match my key. It was an easy install and works great. I hope you don't have this issue but if you do this is an easy fix for it.

Do not hesitate to buy this key lock cylinder if yours is jamming!Getting it earlier before it completely jams will save you a lot of trouble, including drilling out the lock. However, it's not so hard to do if you follow simple guides online. Skip the bs that mechanics will give you at the shop, and skip the bs that the parts dealers will give you at the store. I personally saved a ton of money and time AND stress by buying this, and even had a bit of fun setting the tumblers in the lock when I got it which was pretty cool. I thought it was very much like a unique puzzle. I ordered this via priority mail and got it a day early. It was in my car and I was on the road within 20 minutes of getting it in the mail. In total, I had it fixed within 3 days of it jamming up. Been driving for a few days now, and the cylinder is working beautifully. Absolutely great!

I selected this Ford OEM Part to increase the odds for a successful repair. The kit was missing springs needed to complete the repair. The listing mentioned a quantity of 8 springs and shows 8 springs in the product photo. Only five were included in the kit. This is very frustrating when you are trying to make a timely repair.
