About this item

  • Allows Base & Mobile Antennas to Connect to Handheld Antenna Jack.
  • Approx. 3ft Cable with SO-239 on one end, & SMA male on other.
  • High Quality RG-58.
  • Fits most Yaesu, Icom, Alinco, Kenwood & TYT Amateur Radios.
  • Keeps Strain & weight off & away from HT's Antenna jack.

This Cable accepts a PL-259 from Base/Mobile antennas, & adapts it to the Female "SMA" style jack found on most Amateur Radio hand-held.  It will not fit some of the models that require a female sma interface.  To see if it fits your hand talk radio just unscrew the antenna and make sure it has a connector on the bottom of the antenna with a pin inside.  Your adapter cable will screw into your radio and allow you into hook up to a standard Ham antenna lead.

This works great for connecting my Yaesu VX-5R to external antennas. It appears to be pretty high quality and durable. The length of it is nice, getting the bulky PL-259 connector away from the cramped space on my radio near the SMA connector.

I use this to connect my FT1DR HT to the outside antenna. Connects very nicely and works great. Well made and should last me many years to come.

The delivery was quick. I got two of them, and they were slightly different from each other. The exterior shrink tubing on the small end was incomplete on one of them. Might be a problem with QC. But it shouldn't effect its ability to work properly. May not be waterproof but it didn't claim to be. I just thought that when a person orders two of the same thing from the same place at the same time, they should be alike.

Works as designed. Just make sure you're getting the right adapter for your radio. SMA vs RSMA. I've had no problems and the cable seems well made.

This is nothing at all like similar adapter cables I've owned in the past. All of those were flimsy, the connections had stress points that broke, and the wire gauge was so thin that it likely caused a SWR due to the impedance mismatch to the wire it was connecting to. This is a quality adapter. I'm hitting distant repeaters that I couldn't before, and I'm also getting signal reports that were far better than I was getting in the past. All because of the upgrade in quality of this adapter. Definitely recommended.**Update 1-26-2013** I'm still marveling at how much better my signal is with this adapter than it ever was in the past. I am hitting repeaters 35-40 miles away on 5 watts on my handheld VHF 2 meter radio. With this adapter connecting the radio to my mobile antenna, I'm making it in with a good, clean signal. Glad I bought this, because it improved my antenna performance easily 100%.

Ordered one of these to connect a Yaesu HT to a full-wave 2-meter antenna at a campsite. The first day it worked great. The second day, the SMA connector just fell right off into the mud, leaving the exposed wire end behind. Again, this was at a fixed-base station - there was no wire strain or pressure on the connector, unless you count picking up the radio and setting it back down. Even though I ordered it just before a trip, the return window was so short that I already missed it.

The CO-AXE used between the connectors is too stiff. I was going to use this to connect my HT to a magnet mount antenna. But this adapter cable is stiffer then the CO-AXE on the magnet mount. I ended up buying a SMA to PL-259 adapter to use instead of the adapter cable.

A few years ago, I purchased a Pig-Tail from Radio Shack and paid three times the cost of this one. After 12 months of use, Radio Shack's Pig-Tail started to fray where the coax meets the SO-239 connection. Then I find this product, costing so much less, and yet the quality goes way beyond Radio Shack's by leaps and bounds. This item was shipped very quickly and I had it in hand in just two days!Highly recommend - and would be happy to purchase again from this company. You can't go wrong.
