After having the orignal filter canister/paper element on a 1962 Chevy C30 leak at the gasket AGAIN, I decided to order this kit. If you have an old vehicle with the clumsy metal housing and a separate paper element, you NEED this conversion kit. Installation was easy and took about 30 minutes, with most of that time spent trying to jack up and secure the old truck on stands (they don't build them like this anymore, this truck is steel, and lots of it!). MAKE SURE you get the old thin gasket out of the recessed area on the block prior to installing the adapter and it's gasket. I found an old gasket stuck up in there and had to fish it out with a pick hook; that was probably one reason the last oil change with the stock filter assembly leaked. This adapter has turned a messy 30 minute oil and filter change into a relatively neat, simple, process with a readily-available cartridge filter (used to have to order the old paper element 'cause nobody kept them in stock).

What a mess. This item is of very low quality. The sealing surfaces of the castings were so bad the oil filter barely made complete contact when screwed on but figured they sell alot of these so must not be a problem. Installed this part being very careful not to over tighten because its a casting not solid aluminum. Got filter on, filled engine with oil, started car to check for leaks and as soon as I got under the car there was oil running down the back of the oil filter. Thought maybe I didn't have it tight enough. Took everything apart to inspect sure enough it was cracked on the back side. The wall was sanded at the manufacturer which made it thin in that area ( see pics). Fortunately I caught it before I took off on a road trip. Guess I'll chock it up as a learning experience and stick with the stock canister filter. I definitely do not recommend this product.

I needed this part cause I just put Hedders on my sbc. The listed price at Autozone was 17.99. The price on Amazon was 14.78.. Hell yea..Sold.. This part is a perfect fit. I took off the original oil filter canister and installed this adapter with a new style spin on filter. I used a Fram PH-5, but it was a little too long, so I then used a Fram PH-30. Perfect fit for Long Tube Hedders.

It looks like a great retrofit. I wish it would have worked for me But I was trying to us it on a WW2 GE Search light.

Yes it does come with the nipple! Bought this to replace my old leaking adapter. The oil seal that comes with these is not easily sourced so it was easier to just buy a whole new kit. I'm not a fan of the aluminum casting but it did work on my 66 396 big block and fixed my oil leak so cant complain too bad

Gaskets are not a particularly good fit. Threaded pipe threads won’t fit the oil filter. Save your money and spend more for a better one. I ended up using a Trans Adapt that I had on another car and tossed this one in the trash. For the record I have used many other Mr. Gasket products successfully. I just don’t recommend this one.
