This product was advertised as being made out of solid steel and that is the reason I bought it. It is too light to be steel or stainless steel and is non magnetic. I selected this particular item because the advertisement said it was steel. I had planned on doing some machining and welding modifications to it for a special skunkworks project that I'm working on. If I had wanted aluminum or some other chrome plated pot metal, I wouldn't have taken the time to read through all the ads until I found a "steel" one. I am really disappointed with the lack of education and professionalism in the office bound sales forces in the marketplace. It's just too bad that basic science is not taught by the teachers unions and we don't take pride and manufacture things here in the world any more. It says right on the package that it was made in china by mexicans. It would have been better if it was at least from somewhere in North America like Canada or Mexico .
