This works well with MSD 6AL box, I would recommend for street/strip muscle cars. Very effective and easy to use

I decided to go with the 8992 because it’s a little bit cheaper and it looks a little bit cooler

This timing light is a sorry piece of ....... It ordered it with great expectations only to be disappointed. It arrived DOA with NO batteries. The instuction manual says it had batteries already installed. When I did install the batteries, it takes 6 AAA size, I found the battery holder held together with an "O" ring and the whole battery pack connected to the instrument, I'm being kind here, with wire nuts. I figured it was not my job to trouble shoot this item so I sent it back. MDS tech support was busy assisting other customers so they were not able to respond in less than 48 hours. I could tell they are sorry for any inconveniece they might have caused meIf it did work I would only think this item would be worth $50 at the most. It is light weight plastic and does not project the feel of a $200 plus tool. Save your money on this item.

After spending north of $200 it arrived with a pack of cheap batteries that were dead. So I put my own batteries in. Pretty lame way of installing batteries in a $200 tool... a tray that uses a rubber band to hold in the batteries! I have no idea if it even works or not. I tried it and it didn't, and then saw that the pigtail had fallen onto the headers and had melted the insulation. My bad. So I'm torn between ordering another pigtail or not. The box got thrown away so I doubt I can return it.... Save your money, get a different one!

Awful lot of money for convenience of battery power. Have to unscrew 4 back screws on back side to access battery's as opposed to one, or a tension tab in the handle

I’m not sure what was worse. The lack of quality of this timing light Or the lack of customer service from MSD!!!I’ve always trusted their Ignition systems, So I felt safe spending approximately FOUR times more on their timing light…… but it failed right out of the box… As others have noted in their feedback, the battery cartridge/Rubber band “Band-Aid” and crappy wiring Should have been a dead giveaway. As I tried to remain loyal to MSD brand, I went through the painful process of sending it to their repair facility (I HAD TO PAY THE SHIPPING!!!) And after over a month it returned with a note that said they did not find anything wrong. I spoke with their technician, I tried to use it on three other vehicles with multiple attempts at changing batteries/improving battery contact… it was intermittent at bestThis timing light is garbage and the although technician was apologetic his company “MSD” did not offer any direct refund or reimbursement for my shipping cost!!!! I contacted a local speed shop and they have seen the same with several other customers having the same exact experience with this particular light. The last one that was sent back for repairs has been there for several months.DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
