The Mxfans HSS 1/2 inch NPT Thread Forming Taps Round Shank with Square End Is about the least expensive 1/2" tap Amazon sells, but so far it cleans threads and cuts threads just as well as taps I own that cost several times more, so as far as I am concerned it's a deal.

Thought I was going to have to cut a pipe adapter. Would use this to clean threads. Did not need to cut adapter. Will keep for future.

I bought this for the hot water heater in our rv. The check valve is plastic and threads into a metallic inlet. This tap cleans our the threads even though it's angled down.

I saw the description, " thread forming tap" and "high speed steel" when I bought it. Tried in aluminum, and impossible. One part was only 1/4" aluminum, and it wouldn't. 3 stars because it will probably work cleaning rust out.

Threads are full of imperfections and chips, doesn't look or feel like HSS. This looks like a cheap carbon steel tap that they're trying to sell as a more expensive HSS tap. Save your money!As usual made in China.

I purchased this tap to fix the threads on the drain plug for my RV Hot Water tank. Having a shorter shank than some other taps I viewed, I was able to use the tap without removing any of the piping or other equipment.The tap itself performed well for my application, and saved me the cost of getting the job done professionally, but I want to be perfectly honest -- I am not likely to use this tap very often, because I just don't have the need. The steel it is made of seems to be suitably hard, and the quality of the threads seems to be consistent. However, I cannot really speak to the longevity or suitability for use in a professional shop. It did what I needed it to, it did it well, I am happy with this purchase, and more I cannot say.

This was exactly as I expected and at a great price. I only need it about once a year on my RV so this quality should be just fine. Not really suggesting poor quality but guessing at that price...

I only used it on soft aluminum but is worked great.
