Although I did not buy these to muffle sound I like using sintered vents for gearboxes that need to remain open to the atmosphere. The older style vent plugs with a couple of holes for the vent often make the surrounding area oil covered quickly. Plus the oil doesn't escape and just drains back into the housing.

I cant tell a difference between these being installed or not. It is just as loud as an open airline hissing like crazy. It doesnt muffle anything
