I'm sure some sushi experts would consider homemade sushi sacrilegious. And some humans are paranoid enough to avoid consuming raw fish entirely despite its relative safety, or acknowledge its tastiness but limit their consumption to that prepared in restaurants or en masse in factories.Fortunately, I am neither. My love affair with sushi began at a Rochester, NY revolving sushi restaurant. I went with a professor and classmate as part of a collegiate field trip. The smoked salmon sashimi, especially, blew me away. I am an avid baker and home chef, so it only seemed natural to research making my own sushi.I did not want to spend a great deal on this endeavor, so I started off with some cheaply-procured sushi rice and rice vinegar from a discount grocer, some fish from Aldi (more on that later), and of course this fantastic little set of sushi making tools. While not strictly necessary, they elevate the sushi making experience and make it something special. I have had no issues with them; they are sturdy and do not splinter significantly.I love using the paddle to prepare rice; I use a 9x13 glass casserole dish, though I might consider upgrading to a wooden bowl if one arises at the right price. The general formula of 1 part salt, 2 parts sugar, and 3 parts vinegar works well as a sushi vinegar recipe. I will then sometimes make rolls with the mats; other times, I simply throw together a good old fashioned plate of sashimi or a "sushi bowl," then eat them with the provided chopsticks. So far, my sushi staples are the frozen Ahi Tuna Steaks and the Smoked Salmon Slices from Aldi. Both are tasty, and they make sushi night a near-weekly occurrence without going over budget. Three cheers to homemade sushi!

Bought to hide in parrot treats etc. My birds seem to love it.

Nice chopsticks, mats & bag/travel case. However, the rice spoon quality could be so much better….splinters a bit.

I’ve only used the bamboo rolling mat, but they work just the way they’re supposed to! No complaints.
Here for now
