Maintaining an acidic environment in the vagina is crucial to support normal flora and prevent the growth of bad bacteria. Monitoring your pH can not only help detect issues but can also confirm suspicion of an issue. As another reviewer noted, you do need your own cotton swabs to place the specimen on the test stick. I guess you could use a clean, sterile finger in a pinch. It doesn't take much and the test pad turns colors pretty quickly. I'll also echo the difficulty in differentiating the colors. It seems as the colors get darker, there is more blue hue to them and the lighter side is more yellow/green. I couldn't find my exact color but it looked somewhat near 5.5 but much lighter. I am in perimenopause so this isn't necessarily abnormal. I would say if you believe you have a higher color, then go get confirmation with your doctor. These are good monitors, first line indicators but are not meant as definitive diagnostic tools. The strips come well sealed—the outer box is completely plastic wrapped. The inside tube contains a plastic safety ring and the strips inside are contained in multiple air sealed foil packs. You don't need to expose the whole contents of the bottle at once, so this keeps things fresher longer. Plus, the inside of the cap contains desiccant so after you open a package, keep the strips in the bottle and the desiccant should maintain their quality. Long dated so store properly and they should last.Fun Facts:Factors that can alter vaginal pH:--Semen or lube that are more alkaline--Your period temporarily creating a more alkaline environment.--Using scented or perfumed period products that disturb the composition of the vaginal microbiota--Antibiotics can kill bad bacteria but also wipe out the good bacteria, too--Douching, washing with perfumed hygiene products, or wearing tight/sweaty clothes for long durations of time increase the risk of microbial imbalance--Menopause and the subsequent reduction in female estrogen levels has been linked to a higher (less acidic) vaginal pH.

I get the same results no matter what I test. On myself anywhere else in the house I automatically get the same color. I'm not sure if these are accurate or I'm always just normal range.

I am elderly and deal with the discomfort and limitations that come from my status. From a medical point of view the main intervention is some sort of estrogen product whether cream or something stronger. I am using my vine membership as a way to learn about and try out natural and traditional supplements and treatment adjuncts beyond the mainstream. (Meaning I have a limited awareness beyond conventional medicine.) I am thinking that a good start for me is to start learning and paying attention to the condition of my body parts, including intimate ones. Knowing PH seems essential. And then I can go from there. I also ordered natural supplements (another review) which I haven't yet tried. Knowledge is power.

I like that these are easy to use, saves time, and money. I would recommend using and follow up with your doctor if needed.
