I've been using this shovel in a two weeks kayak trip in wilderness. Very light weight and compact dimensions together with titanium hardness makes this item essential for travelers like me.

The metal is thick enough, the shape is reinforced with the right bends, the hole where the shaft goes in is even welded with a nice weld, but the hole where the handle goes in is maybe an inch in diameter and isn't round. I don't know why there isn't a tapered hole for the handle, it would allow for a larger, stronger handle and wouldn't be any harder to manufacture.

Too small for what I wanted it for. Feels cheap but I have not used it yet. I would not recommend it.

Shovel head and pin are excellent quality and the titanium is thicker than other titanium hiking products I own which I expected for a shovel. The first product I received has a severely bent wood handle which I find unacceptable at this price point. I hope this is a minor quality control issue and hope the replacement will have better handle. I will update when I receive a replacement.Edit:Replacement has a bad handle as well and I will be deducting another star for poor fit/finish and quality control. This is disappointing because the shovel head and pin are excellent quality.

My wife is throwing the shovel head out because it is so flimsy that it can’t dig up our Missouri soil without bending. This is after I customized (whittled) a skinny yet sturdy stick to secure it to as a handle. It may be able to shovel something soft and is small enough to be a very expensive sandbox shovel if you have kids. Save yourself some time and money and get a real shovel or spade at your local hardware store, uninstall the shovel head with an edge grinder and fit the shovel head to your hiking stick, and bring along a bolt/screw to attach the shovel as needed to your hiking stick. Otherwise you will have to haul a useless but lightweight toy.

The four stars is for both the shovel and handle. The shovel gets five stars and the handle three. Nothing wrong with the handle it just kinda doesn't make any sense to have an ultralight shovel and pair it with a wood handle. I purchased some carbon fiber tubing and made my own handle which is longer and lighter.
