My family wasn't poor, but we didn't have much money. Most of our toys and games were pretty basic, but after I grew up I realized that they were as much a learning experience as a toy. The pick-up sticks I played with were just like these. Some were a bit warped. They were wood. I bought a set for my grandkids because my sons gave all of them those damn phones, even the tiny ones have something like a smartphone and their necks are becoming permanently bowed from looking at the screens. They don't go out with their friends - if they have any. They don't get out to do much of anything. Those phones are great babysitters, but any of my friends at the same age were years ahead in socializing and motor skills. by the time I was 10 everyone was playing mumbly-peg. Now, the police would be called on a bunch of children throwing knives near our feet, but we had hand/eye coordination modern day kids can only dream about. This is a simple game, but get those little zombies interested and they'll choose it over some stupid video game. There are a bunch of similar games out there. Try chess some day when they are weaned from the screen. Even little kids can play a good game. I tossed my smart phone eight years ago and my life is so much richer. I am a businessman with just a landline and I haven't lost a dime. I gained freedom. Hopefully little games like this will give a measure of freedom to kids again.

I bought this set for my 9 yr old because pick up sticks is one of her favorite games and she and her brother had lost several of the sticks from her original set. This set is made up of wooden sticks which was nice versus the cheaper plastic stick version she had. Some of the plastic sticks had bent and they were much thinner than this set. The sticks were larger than I expected but she likes that as it's easier for the kids to manage them. It also came with more sticks than her previous set which was also nice since it gives her 6yr old brother more of a chance to score points since she usually picks up a lot of sticks on her turn.

When my daughter who’s 9 years old asked for this game I thought, okay, the rules are simple enough she’ll be able to play with her little brother who’s 5 years old. It’s quite, doesn’t require a screen or batteries GREAT! “Yes. I would love to buy this for you†I happily said and bought it. It came next day and they were so excited to play. We went over the rules, they sat at the dining room table and I went to the kitchen. .00000009 seconds later a screaming match started over if a stick moved. This has literally happened every. single. time. they. play. I eventually got so fed up I took it away and tossed it in my closet.OVERALL, the quality of the game is great; the instructions are included and I love the idea of how simple this game is but like always children ruined it. The inability of my kids not being able to complete a game without a screaming match no way reflects on the sellers and this tiny box of different colored sticks.

Yes, this is the classic game of pickup sticks we all know and love. But the quality isn't the greatest. The paint rubs off--it comes off and the darker colors rub off on the lighter colors. The box the sticks come in is nice, but the bad paint quality really makes me wonder how long this set will last. It looks super cute as a gift, it's just not very durable.

I played with these as a child, so I bought them for my grandchildren. They were soon intrigued by them and caught on what to do.The best thing about these OLD GAMES is that it helps a child's brain coordination. They are far better for them than playing computer games.Plus, these games give interaction between children they know in a home situation instead of those people they don't know who are on computer games.I am a retired registered nurse/counselor and understand the value of encouraging. valuable learning.

These sticks are thicker than the ones I used as a child and they are not as smooth. I find these harder to lift ofF easily because of the thickness. Maybe with time and practice I can adjust my technique.
