Great flash for the price. I love the rechargeable battery. No more AA’s!

I really like this flash. Compared to my Godox V1 pro, this thing handles most tasks just as well at a lower price. The only areas where Godox (and most other brands) beat this thing are in color accuracy and extended burst shots. I really like the screen on this newer model, the old screen drove me nuts as it was very similar to older cameras from the early 2000s. All in all, i highly recommend this flash, especially if your already invested in the Neewer line of flashes with the Q wireless tech. The only thing I don't know too much about is the longevity of the hot shoe, I know this was a weak point of some flashes and I just don't know how well this model will hold up over time.

I'm a big fan of NEEWER products and have so much of their equipment throughout my 'creator arsenal' that I've lost count. They make a wide range of functional and high quality gear and sell it at a value price point. Lately, it seems like they're making an effort to break out of the 'good for the price' niche and move up in the market. This speedlite is a case in point. The results are pretty impressive. This might not rank among the 'best in class' speedlight and definitely not in price. It does rank as one of the highest priced flashes that NEEWER has produced but nowhere close to what you'll pay for an OEM flash or a premium brand like Profoto. This is nominally the top of the line NEEWER speedlight but it appears that NEEWER is targeting the Godox V1 series of round head flashes. In other words, they're not gunning for the top brands like Profoto but for the unofficial title of 'best for the price' product currently held by Godox. The two products are extremely similar--similar feature set, similar accessories included and a similar price point. The most frequent gripes about the lower priced NEEWER flashes--no TTL or zoom head, rudimentary optical slave triggering--have been addressed here. The result is a ton of options--TTL autoflash, manual flash, multi-flash, modelling lamp, etc. You can use it off cameras with a wireless transmitter (sold separately), which is a bit of a pain though Godox also has their transmitter sold separately. It produces nice light, recharges quickly and even comes with a second battery. This might not get NEEWER into 'best of class' consideration but it definitely puts them in the mix with Godox for 'best performing speedlite at a value price'. It definitely worked great on my Nikon cameras. Highly recommended!

I have a small collection of seven speedlights, which range from budget to flagship. Three are Nikon branded, two are Godox (V1 and V850III), and two are Neewer (Z1 and Z2). Of the group, I can easily say that the Neewer Z2 is my absolute favorite speedlight. It does have a couple notable weaknesses that I'll get into a bit later in the review, but first I wanted to talk about the positives. So the Neewer Z2 has a wonderful screen, which is a huge upgrade from their first iteration. While the original had that backlit calculator screen, this one has a bright, sharp, and vibrant LCD. Yes, it does lower battery life a bit, but I would argue that the tradeoff is worth it for me. For professionals that need to be on location for 12 hours at a time, this might be more of an issue. Another huge upgrade is the interface, which is now clean, legible, and easy to get the hang of. Other brands typically have a bit of a learning curve, and it can take a bit of time to acclimate to a new OS. The Neewer Z2, however, was incredibly intuitive and I had my flash up and running within a few minutes of powering it on for the first time. In terms of build quality, the Z2 is really solid. Don't let the relatively cheap price fool you, this is a very, very capable speedlight. It has good power, fast recycling time, and has amazing range too. Last thing I wanted to mention... I had a few weird issues with the previous model that they seemed to have fixed with this one. My Z1 had this one problem where whenever I would do a flash test with my Godox receiver, the speedlight model lamp would turn on and the sound would unmute itself. Doesn't seem to be happening with this one any more, which is great. Also, it's great to see that they introduced a built in USB-C port for their batteries now. I love not having to pull a charge cradle out of storage every time I want to top off the battery. Lots of flowers to Neewer for these small, quality of life changes. So there's really only one real weakness with the speedlight... it doesn't have great flash detection. If you plan on using it as a slave, you might have a hard time getting it to wirelessly trigger alongside the master. I circumvented this issue by attaching a Godox receiver onto the Neewer Z2, which allows me to group it with my Godox V1. I'm then able to use my X3 flash trigger to fully control both speedlights, and I have full capabilities with them both, as well.TLDR - Amazing price to performance. Intuitive, with a beautiful screen. Battery life suffers a bit. Would love to see a built in USB-C port on the removable battery. Still an easy 5/5 star

This is a great flash by Neewer compared to my Nikon SB-700. I really like the round flash head and ease of use over the older gear. The screen is bright and easy to read, and the user interface is much easier to control than my old flash. The recycling time is fast and the range to 105mm is very useful for portrait photography. The build is high quality and it feels solid, and the battery can be directly charged using a type C cable, rather than using a separate battery charger. I rans tests up to 1/8000 speed and it performed flawlessly. Great flash for the price.

Final revision: The issue with the battery showing wrong charge level was fixed in the latest FW, which earned one more star. This is a revision of the review that I posted last week. It is for the Z2-N 3000mAh battery version. I had a chance to test the flash extensively on Z8 and do a small project. So, here is my impression about the flash handling itself and its performance. What liked:- It is very well built and the materials used are really good.- The display is excellent with large symbols. I like that it does turn off.- Like the user interface: very intuitive for everyone that is not a first-time flash user.- Ran test at speeds up to 1/8000 and the flash handled it with excellence. What I didn't like (which made me take out one star):- The battery status on the display never shows full 4 bars. Even just after charging the battery out of the flash the indicator will show 3 bars. Not sure if I have got a faulty battery or a faulty flash. Already contacted Neewer though their website, so let see when will they answer.- From the tests that I did, I doubt the claimed 600 full power shots.- Constant under exposure by about 0.7 stops. This is not a big flaw because it is easily correctable and may be fixed in future FW updates.- Noticed some inconsistency in the exposure in iTTL mode, maybe one out of 10 was overexposed by about 0.7-1 stop.- The user manual can be download from Neewer website, but it is not searchable, regardless that it is in PDF format. Not convenient at all: I did not find the optical slave S1/S2 settings, but it very well might been that I simply missed it.- 3000mAh batteries are currently unavailable to purchase as sparesRegardless of the flaws described, it is a very good flash, particularly at the price it goes for right now.
