This made a considerable difference for cool/cold weather smoking and grilling. Reading the reviews for this before purchasing, it sounds like users that bought this with the intent of retaining or blocking heat while cooking were happy with it, while welders were disappointed. I haven't had anything that was on fire (or a coal) come in contact with the blanket, so I can't comment on how it performs in that regard. For a double drum smoker (where both drums are mounted sideways, one above the other) this does a good job of covering most of the top drum. I monitor both meat and cooking chamber temps when smoking, and do not open the chamber until the meat hits the desired temp. With this blanket as a cover, I'm able to keep the cooking chamber at a stable temp more easily.Using this on my standard propane grill to cook steaks in the winter (30-40 degrees F) this blanket performed exceptionally well. The first time doing this, I let the blanket cover the handle too. The blanket worked so well that the handle was scolding hot. The handle has never been scolding hot before. From then on, I tucked the blanket into and under the grab handle so that it remains cool, yet the cooking surface stays very hot.

I can't believe the quality of this item compared to its price! It is made of very heavy, thick material and has nice grommets around the edges. I am very happy with this purchase!

I am using this as a cold weather heat cover for my Camp Chef pellet smoker and for that purpose it works well. The 4'x6' size folded in half gives me a double thickness and covers the entire door, top, and sides of the smoker and really helps to keep the heat in and reduce pellet usage in cold weather. I use some super strong magnets to hold it in place. It doesn't shed any fibers and yes it discolored a bit where the smoke gets to it but that was expected. Used it three times and so far it's holding up great. Should last a long time.

I have a radiator in my apartment bedroom that bangs and clanks continually. It remains hot all the time, as it has no on/off dial. I can't sleep with all that noise and heat, so I bought this welding blanket and wrapped it around the radiator. Works wonders! It completely muffles the sounds, and stops the heat from roasting me. This is probably against all known fire codes, but it sure works. I unwrap it occasionally and check to make sure there aren't any terrible burn marks. So far there haven't been any burn marks or even middling brown marks. If you try this, do be careful when unfolding the blanket as the fiberglass is messy stuff and will get on your carpet, clothes, skin, etc.

I had to give the title this name. I bought an outdoor electric smoker. If the air is cool and/or a breeze is imminent, the temperature will fluctuate like crazy. Can't cook that way. I bought this blanket, the closest to the cookers size and just drape over it. It works.

Either this item was sold brand new when it was used or manufacture was brutal. Not only Is there a tear the welding blanket is covered is grease spots. Pretty poor.

Bought this to insulate our wood/charcoal smoker and still smoke a ham for Christmas during our cold Canadian winter!! Worked great, it actually kept the smoker at 350 degrees C So easily we had to uncover it part of the time to smoke as slow as desired. Very impressed with delivery overnight!
