I am used to Elazar's and Lehman's oil lamps with the full on wicks that practically require a blow torch to light. These would be the easy version. I still used olive oil, but was able to use a regular lighter and the flame took right away. I put out my wicks with oil and out of the 5 I lit one night I was able to relight 4 the next night, and 2 the night after that. There is no soot, and it smells a little like you are cooking when you put it out with oil. I use a salad oil jar (with a spout) to add oil easily and put out the flame. The octagon is about the size of a quarter. And they all floated to the outer edges of my bowl, so don't use a container that curves over the flame in any way! I have read of people using dixie cups to hold these which I think is wild. I don't put water in the bottom of my bowl, I just keep adding oil.

I love these little things. I read about them on a blog. It was instructions on how to make candles out of everyday items. I used a mason jar with some dried plants from the woods covered with water then added a little grape seed oil 1/2 inch and the candle has been burning for two days and there is still oil left. They are great. I will keep them around. They are a cheep easy tosketch candle. They will be great for preppers. One gallon of oil and a pack if the floating wicks will last a long time.

I think these little gizmos are awesome! There was a product back the 1970's call The Uncandle. It was basically a little container that looked a lot like a glass vase that you use to force hyacinth bulbs indoors. You filled it with water, poured on some vegetable oil and floated a little wick like these on top of that and lit it. These are the same principal. You can turn anything into a candle/lamp! I have a lot of various sized vases and containers that I have used with these little wicks and they look beautiful when lit and glowing. You can add pebbles, glass beads, shells or other items for a more decorative effect. The price was a very good deal and shipping was quick. I am so happy to have found these! I will be ordering them on a regular basis now that I know where to buy them. I had no idea my Jewish friends were keeping these a secret. I'm VERY happy with this purchase and highly recommend them. Good job!

The wick quality was fine, but I wish there were specifications regarding the size of the wicks. We have size 11 oil cups and these were too large; however, we just cut the edges (which was a bit tedious) and they ended up fitting well, but sometimes they tipped and sank in the oil.

It was easy to make. I made 2 for gifts and 1 for myself. I've made candles before with wax and wicks but this was so much easier and the candle burned for 4 hours before the wick gave out. I'd buy them again.

Box contained fewer wicks than 50. It’s a fair mistake but quality control should be more careful

I use these for my menorah. They last very well. Only I learned not to ever use cork side up! Lol
