The item is defective and does not latch. Any pressure at all on the latch causes it to release, even on a bench test before installing on the car.

This is probably the 3rd trunk latch i’ve put in my 2000 honda civic and it was junk just like the rest, after a month or so the plastic/rubber pin that pushes the latch close ended up bending into itself just like the rest have done. I’m about ready to weld my truck closed and just install a little hatch door with a pad lock.
