This tripod is a perfect tool for any serious outdoor photographer. This model, Oben CT-2491, is extra tall and thereby allows use on uneven or steep terrain. On such surfaces you have much better opportunity to keep an appropriate height in order to maintain an eye level view of your subject. Also, the extra length of this tripod affords the user a greater opportunity to attain a higher camera position for a downward view when the circumstances call for such extreme angles. The carbon fiber leg sections offer a significant weight savings and extra durability. The leg sections use a twist lock with rubberized grip which require about a 1/2 to 3/4 turn to release or re-lock. This is noticeably more turn than some tripod designs that boast only a 1/4 turn lock. However, the effort for the extra twist is not too bothersome once you adjust to it. Once coupled with an appropriate ball head such as the Oben BC-139 or the Sirui K-30X you have a combination that is both professional and highly versatile. Without hesitation, I would recommend the Oben CT-2491 tripod to a serious, aspiring photographer.

I've had an Oben 2420 for many years and it's 5 star rock solid, Really hard to beat for the price (about 1/3 of a new Gitzo.) I bought the 2491 to get a bit larger tripod for my architecture work. The problem with the pod I received: The center column has a smooth metal 1 inch section at the top that cannot be securely tightened in the center collar. Even when raised an inch to engage the carbon fiber section instead of the metal part the center column is still moves about an 1/8 (to slightly less) of an inch inside the collar. I don't know if this is particular to the one I received or this model in general.Otherwise, the legs are very secure. Wish it was as tight as my travel Oben.

Only downside is it takes more twisting than preferred to release the legs.

I needed a taller carbon fiber tripod than the aluminum Indiro I initially purchased and this Open did the trick! At a considerably less cost than the CF Gitzo models, I am more than pleased with this Oben tripod.
