Great unit and shipped very fast. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I have two studios in my house. One is all computer with a PCI interface and USB keyboards. The other is kind of a demo room with a smaller setup consisting of a 4-track cassette, Zoom drum machine and various guitar pedals. I decided I wanted to take the outboard gear out of the PC studio. That room would be strictly for doing everything in the box. So I wanted my rack gear in the demo room with no computer. I play acoustic guitar and sing my own songs. I'm lately finding this to be more enjoyable than sitting in front of a computer monitor staring at Reason or Live. Those programs are fun and I enjoy them immensely. But there are times when I want a very simplified approach. I've always had the idea that you could get very good results with a beefy front end in front of an old cassette 4-track. My gear consists of four units: an Aphex 207D tube mic/instrument preamplifier, a Zoom RFX-2200 digital effects unit, a dbx 166XL compressor/gate/limiter and a Zoom RFX-1100 analog effects unit. The minute I got the Odyssey I set it up in the demo room and started putting my gear in. HOT TIP! Lay the thing on its back when installing your gear. This will save you a lot of hassle and prevent bent rack ears. You'll notice in the product photo that there are only four screws holding in six pieces of gear! I'd bet anything it was photographed on its back. Also, screw the screws in NEARLY all the way. Do this so that the gear can still be moved or straightened. Once everything's square finish tightening. Flip it back up and you're ready to roll. My Tascam 424mkIII fits on top perfectly, but it's ideal for a small mixer. I don't yet have a power conditioner, but will probably get a Furman. For now I have an old 6-outlet power strip sitting in the base. When you start plugging things in here's what I did. Plug the bottom-most component into the bottom outlet. Then move your way up. This way you'll always know which plug is for which piece of gear. Ultimately I plan to add maybe a BBE Sonic Maximizer or maybe a power amp, as well as the Furman, so maybe the twelve-space would have been a better choice. My Aphex has a vent on top for the tube and needs airflow, so I've left a space open above it. Course I could take out the Zoom 1100 which I'm not really using at the moment. But that's the whole point of the Odyssey: options for organizing. Get your gear off the coffee table and into this solid, well-built rack. The carpeting is a rich black color, and has something of a sheen to it you can't see in the photos. And once it's full of your gear turn out the lights, flip everything on and bask in the glory of electronic music.

This past year I have been expanding my small home studio space for my personal musical entertainment. As I acquired various rack units I knew that I would need something to house them properly instead of in an inelegant pile. Since this was for a home studio, I did not care about portability, and I also wanted something small to fit in my small space, since I don't have that much equipment.Rack hardware can be quite expensive even for small racks, but Odyssey has brought something really useful here by stripping a rack down to its basic form and offering it at a really attractive low price. The rack is made of carpeted wood, which while nothing fancy, does look rather nice and blends into a studio perfectly without taking up much space. The slightly upturned angle is also a nice touch.Overall I am very pleased with this rack as it is solidly built and does exactly what it needs to do while being friendly to your budget. The only suggestion I might offer is that it could be made a little deeper. While I don't own any rack equipment that exceeds the depth, I do have a Furman that gets pretty close and I could easily see how some equipment might not fit due to the rack being shallower than standard. On the other hand, being more shallow does make the rack more compact so there's a tradeoff.

I literally just received this about 10 minutes ago, which btw, is 2 days faster than Amazon said. I'm in NY & it came from NJ via free express shipping; thank you Prime! I thought I'd have to assemble it but it was already built. Seems to be sturdy enough for my needs. I'm replacing a 50" TV stand that I re-purposed to put my bigger amps on. But I had 2 smaller amps that I needed something to put them on and mount my power conditioner in at the same time. The other 2 full sized amps are going on stands that I'm finally getting to use after several years! So this is perfect. One of the amps is a small Fender acoustic which fits inside. And the top is sturdy enough for my Marshall Core 25 amp, which has controls on top so this gives me that access as well. I haven't mounted the conditioner in the rails yet but they look like standard rails, so that shouldn't be a problem. My only downside and it has nothing to do with the unit,, is that there's some space around the small acoustic amp. But a piece of 1/4" plywood cut and shaped to fit around the amp should be easy enough to make. I'll update this review if I find anything wrong with the rack.

This is exactly what I was looking for! Something for a home studio without breaking the bank. In mine I have a power conditioner/supply, an Avid Eleven Rack, a 2u rack computer, a Korg rack Tuner and still have enough room to add more if I need it. Its compact enough to fit on a small table next to my desk but definitely has some weight to it with the equipment in it, but is easily sturdy enough to handle it. I like the slight angle at the front of the unit, and the carpeting adds a bit of warm texture to it instead of just being laminated wood but I would have bought it either way. For my use, it's a great little rack!

Wanted an 8 unit rack for my home studio and i got this. I'll be able to fit all my half stack units (bought shelves), my kemper profiler, sound card, etc... That way, no more wires going across the room for no reason! It arrived without a scratch, my units fit nicely inside too! Of course, i had made sure it was deep enough for the units i own prior to buying it. Happy with my purchase, especially for this price!

Im really surprised at all the positive reviews. I found the construction poor for $200. But more importantly, WARNING, they just drop an odd shape item into a square box with no protection at all. So it rolls around inside the box. Mine arrived smashed in half. The cheap black felt torn from the splintered wood. If it had arrived in perfect condition, it would not be worth more than $50. Well at least I got $9 worth of mounting brackets.
