The starter gear on my Tecumseh starter motor (37052A) was completely kaput (no teeth left!). The price on this replacement gear was reasonable and it was returnable if it didn’t fit so I ordered it. Shipping was prompt and within the predicted dates. Product was exactly as described. One of the reviews had mentioned that the plastic cap that protects the return spring mechanism might not fit properly on the replacement gear and I immediately found that to be true. I will need to secure the cap in some fashion. Using epoxy was mentioned but I’m unsure how well that will hold. Since the cap only covers the mechanism but doesn’t impact on function I decided to keep the part and “make it work”!Removing the damaged gear was a bit of a struggle. The retention ring at the end of the drive shaft of the motor doesn’t just “pop off”. I’m sure the manufacturer never intended the starter gear to be a DIY replacement. I was eventually able to pry the ring off. After that installation of the replacement gear was simple. I regreased the helical gears on the part that “throws” the starter gear into the flywheel before reassembly. Once all of the parts were back on the drive shaft the retention ring was “squeezed” back into the groove in the shaft. The collar that retains the return spring, starter gear and the part with the helical gear mechanism has a recessed channel that surrounds the retention ring and prevents it from coming out of the groove. I’m pretty confident that it will stay put. RE: the plastic cap, I’m hoping that if I can completely degrease the mating surfaces on the top of the gear and the inside of the cap, epoxy should hold it in position. We’ll have to see. There are repair kits available that allow for replacement of all of the components but are at or near greater than twice the cost. In my case, only the gear was damaged, so I didn’t go that route. The struggle with the retention would have been the same.Since I’ve yet to reinstall the starter motor on my snow thrower, I can’t report on the durability of the replacement starter gear. Time will tell. Based on the replacement part’s price, prompt shipping and the fact that it “fits”, I believe it has reasonable value and gave 5 STARS for that. 4 STARS for ease of installation (but it wasn’t the fault of the part). Overall rating of 4 STARS was due to plastic cap not fitting properly but would have given 4.5 STARS if possible. I recommend this part if you are mechanically inclined. If not, take your machine to a repair shop 😉.

Refer to pics of, so called, compatible snowblower starter #33329D. Pictured is the old mount and starter. I had to jerry-rig the new mount. Having to go to a machine shop to get a mounting bracket made flys in the face of calling it compatible. The harness is at least 2 inches too short. I'm still not sure this is going to work. Getting the starter Bendix gear to mesh up with the flywheel is almost impossible.

Starter package shipped with all the bolts/screws to install perfectly on my John Deere 10/32 snowblower. Bonus was a heavy duty extension core to plug in to a 120 volt outlet to supply the starter with voltage. This starter is a lot easier to crank this 10 horsepower engine than the pull rope. This old man can’t pull them manual starters like I use too………

Easy to change out the starter. This one seems to be identical to the original on my snowblower. The cord is just a tad longer, but that keeps it from rubbing on the cowling. Worked as advertised. Can't comment on the longevity at this point, but for price it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new snowblower.

Everything was received that was advertised and seems to be reasonable quality. Ever thing fit well and once together the starter did its job and turned over and started my snow blower with no problem. Time will tell as to how it lasts. The only problem was with the snap ring, taking off the old and putting on the new. without the proper tool, both these operations were a pain, but I would have had the same problem with the snap ring from any manufacturer. It would be nice and very beneficial if instructions were provided on how to best remove and instal without specialized tools.

The starter pinion and Bendix drive on my 11HP snowblower had worn to the point that the pinion was slipping and would not turn the engine over. This kit avoided having to replace the whole starter motor, with a big cost saving. However, it is not an easy DIY repair. Removing the circlip that retains the pinion involves levering the clip out of its groove with a screwdriver (circlip pliers don't work for this job). So be prepared to improvise. Also, the new circlip supplied in the kit didn't fit, so I had to re-use the old one, and re-form it back to shape with vise grips once it was positioned in its groove. Job done, now the snowblower is back in service and running well.
