While Sauder provides excellent instructions, the assembly of draws can be very tricky. I would not recommend this unless the person has a reasonable skill level. A rubber mallet proved essential even though this was not one of the required tools. Also, a large, critical metal part was missing. Although I am sure Sauder will supply this missing parts, I discovered this on a Saturday so I'm' stock with a pile of partially parts for several days. I would expect better quality control seeing that the item is fairly expensive.

Color was off, much darker than cherrywood. I get this was particle board with assembly required, but the components are weak and were compromised during assembly. Trashing this thing as it doesn’t look good nor do I trust its structural integrity to support any weight.

This is heavy, kinda okay to assemble..I got this to hold product booklets, receipts, so on and so forth which this has worked perfectly for..Decent quality.

This is a great filing cabinet, and looks really nice once it’s put together. However, it’s a bit more challenging to assemble than your typical DIY furniture, and it will help if you already have some DIY furniture assembly experience. The drawer heights are slightly adjustable, so you can make all the drawers look evenly spaced from the front (very nice). Although it’s on caster wheels, They are recessed up into the cabinet, so the entire cabinet sits very low to the ground (you can’t really see the wheels at all). There are really 3 things to watch out for during assembly:First, it comes with the twist lock fasteners already installed. This is not as nice as it sounds, because it makes alignment of the pieces a bit trickier. When you assemble them, they friction fit, so you have to do a lot of very hard pounding together of the pieces. You can use a hammer for some of it, but not all of it, or you would damage the wood. So, be prepared for a lot of pounding with your palms to get everything together.Second, there is a very difficult screw to install very early, on part 40MA. It took me a while to realize that the extension rail slides apart into two completely separate pieces, so you can place this screw properly. The instructions don’t describe this, so hopefully this tip helps.Third, its possible to put the lock in at any random orientation. You will have to pay attention to how you want the lock installed, and use common sense. The instructions also omit one little piece of the lock, but it’s easy enough to figure out on your own.Once it’s assembled, it’s a very solid file cabinet, with some nice design features (e.g. only one drawer can be open at once, to reduce the chance of it toppling over). It took me about 2 hours to put together by myself, going slowly and being careful. I hope you enjoy it, this is definitely 5 stars, as far as DIY furniture goes.

This file cabinet is HEAVY, but I actually like that. People tend to underestimate the weight of paper, and this cabinet it meant to house A LOT of files. You need a good, sturdy cabinet to withstand that weight, so the weight of this piece doesn't bother me. what does bother me is the price. It's essentially an Ikea cabinet, assembled practically the same way...so expect to spend a good long time just putting it together. Again, the long assembly time doesn't really bother me, it's not fantastic, but I knew I'd have to put it together going into this purchase, so *shrug*. It looks sleek put together, but the walnut finish doesn't look authentic, it looks like the contact paper you can buy at Home Depot, and for the price I was expecting a lot more finesse. The construction is sturdy and impressive (if you build it correctly), but the end look, while nice, is definitely NOT worth the $300+ price tag. Just go to Ikea and find something similar and pay for assembly, you'll still end up saving money.

Pegs never lined up causing the plastic pegs with screw to crack and break out! Not worth the hassle and ikea has easier to assemble furniture.

So, I have put together MANY pieces of furniture over the years and Sauder is by far the most interesting. The instructions on this was pretty straight forward but, none (and I mean none) of the dowel holes were drilled to accept the dowels. Trying to align the holes is always tough enough but when you have to hammer the dowels into place in such a way that it starts cracking the press board................ not so good. Once I decided to re-drill the dowel holes and use a touch of wood glue, problem solved. The value for the money isn't really all that great to me either. I would either buy the unit preassembled or alternately go with another brand. I gave it four stars because once it is together it is a nice unit and they did include a touchup pen for the odd scratches that might occur during assembly.

We ordered this file cabinet for our home office. It took me a little over an hour to fully assemble this cabinet. Assembly was fairly easy to follow. They do use two methods of labeling which is a little inconsistent but, the instructions were still pretty easy to follow. Once I got it assemble I was impressive with how sturdy this cabinet is. It’s a solid filing cabinet with good capacity. We got this as a supplement filing cabinet for our home office so we could separate certain personal files for easy access. This filing cabinet holds tradition file folders with ease. So far I have 50 folders in this cabinet and it holds them all very well. I also appreciate that this filing cabinet comes with two nice drawers that are awesome for storing post it notes, pens, envelopes and extra stationary as our desk is very simple with no drawers. This filing cabinet also looks fantastic! It suites our home office well and is very sturdy and functional. I’m very happy and impressed with filing cabinet and would happily highly recommend it! It doesn’t take up a tone of extra space, it looks great and is very functional and durable for our home office.
