So I unboxed my new flatware set this evening. It is beautiful Oneida quality to be sure. It just seems that instead of a "sugar spoon", which I have no immediate need for, I was gifted two extra teaspoons and two extra dinner spoons which are greatly appreciated. I would have thought that quality control would have caught the extra weight, but the fact is that I am very happy with what I received and would recommend this set even when receiving what is listed on the packaging.

This is an amazing eight piece set of Onita flatware. It's weighted, And looks like a fine restaurant flatware. Price is hard to believe, but it's true.

I purchased this service for 8 flatware set and also a service for 4 flatware set (both Satin Sand Dune) three months ago, so I could have a complete service for 12. I have included the product link for the service for 4 set at the end of this review, if you care to view it. Since my purchase, it appears that there has been some mix-up in Oneida's labeling of the flatware. Some customer reviews state that the flatware is not actually 18/8, but 18/0, and, therefore, poorer quality and an inferior product. As of right now, on the service for 8 set product page (this product page), Amazon has 18/0 as the rating in Product Features. I thought when I originally purchased the product it was advertised as 18/8, but, unfortunately, I cannot fully remember if I noticed how the Oneida box was marked when I received the package. So all of that is definitely confusing to me. But, to be fair, I have to report that after three months of using this flatware everyday and washing it in my dishwasher, I am very pleased with both the quality and the luster of my Satin Sand Dune sets. They still sparkle like new, there is no rust visible on any of the pieces at all, or any unexplained bending or warping, and the pieces all stack nicely and evenly in my silverware caddy. It has been stated that the reason the flatware is rated as 18/0 is because the nickel was left out of the content of the flatware when it was manufactured. Well, if that is true, as it turns out, I have sensitive skin and cannot wear any type of jewelry other than gold or platinum. My dermatologist explained to me that this was a common allergy and was caused by the nickel content found in costume jewelry, including sterling silver jewelry. So, for me, and others with the same condition, flatware without nickel is probably a very good thing. My old flatware set was rated at 18/10, and I did find this flatware slightly lighter in weight, but not any lighter than if it was actually rated at 18/8, as I expected. I had no clue about the 18/0 rating until I decided to write my own positive review about the product and came back here to the amazon product pages. I certainly support truth in advertising as much as the next person, but, really, who truly knows how or when the mis-labeling occurred? Mistakes can happen to manufacturers also, and at least it appears Oneida and Amazon have made an attempt to correct the original error. The only thing I feel a little bad about is that I actually paid about thirty dollars more for this service for 8 set when I bought it in May, but that is just timing and the luck of the draw! At the time of writing this review, Amazon now has this 45 piece Satin Sand Dune set with the serving pieces at a reduced price. In my opinion, that price is a bargain. So, I certainly wish you good luck with your shopping decision, as I know this confusion with the rating just makes it more complicated. But, if anyone wants to know if I, personally, would purchase this product again for myself, or as a gift for someone, I would have to say most definitely, yes, especially after putting it to the test for the last three months. And that goes for both the 20 piece set and this 45 piece set with the serving pieces. They both still look brand new.

I replaced a set I had for years with this and I love it. Like the shape of all of the pieces and that the set came with serving pieces. Feels good when you hold it and should be good for years to come!

Originally bought the Oneida Satin Sand Dune set 8 years ago from Bed Bath and Beyond and really love them - they've held up really well and still look great. Over the years we'd regretted not buying two sets, so bought these. It's clear that Oneida changed factories and the product has gotten worse. Original set are made in Vietnam (stamped 9-13) and feel really good in the hand, edges are smooth, and details are clear. New version is made in China (stamped 89-221) and had rougher, sharper edges and feels immediately cheaper. In the original version, there's a satin finish in the tear-drop shaped detail in the handle, that's gone in the new version. These are details that guests do not notice, but having used the original for so long it's obvious which is which when picking one up, just by feel. We'll keep them as they mostly match (shape has changed a bit), but I'm disappointed in the quality change. Not sure if there's a difference in metal/finish grade, but hopefully the new ones hold up the same.
