Washer Pump

How do you know if your windshield washer pump needs to be replaced?

If you activate the windshield washer and no fluid sprays out, or the spray is weak, then it might be time to start thinking about replacing your windshield washer pump.

Make sure that the nozzles aren’t clogged and that the hoses aren’t crimped, leaking, or blocked.

If you're getting proper voltage to the pump when the windshield wiper switch is activated but no fluid is flowing through the system, it’s time to replace your washer pump.

A disappointing result. Worked 3 times and then would only pump to back window. I spent the extra $ and the replacement OEM pump works great. Pass on this one.

Washer pump on 2012 Ford Explorer went out and needed a replacement. Autozone wanted almost $100 bucks so I decided to give this a try. Part came on time and after watching a few videos I was ready to install. Ford put the washer basin and the pump in the worst place imaginable!! You have to remove the passenger side wheel well cover, take the tire off, and then get the pump out in an area that a toddlers hand would barely fit in. Im sure if you have a lift it would be much easier but I did this in my driveway and it sucked. The part was super easy to install so no rip on that it was the design by the auto manufacturer. So far the pump was worked perfectly and has no issue I have had it installed for 6 months so I will have to see how long it lasts. the original lasted 8 years hopefully this one will too! If you have an explorer and the washer pump goes out this is a perfect fit but a pain to install.

There was a slow drip when using the new grommet. Luckily the original grommet was in good shape and worked. The outlets on this pump looked different than the OEM pump and blowing into the ports told me I should swap the hoses around but that's not the case. Connecting the hoses on the same sides that they were removed from allowed the pump to operate normally. Pressure seemed low but adequate. To get to the pump, turn the steering wheel full right and remove the 5 forward screws holding the inner fenderwell in place. There are videos on YouTube.

As other have said, it produced a weak spray on the windshield. It would require you to have to press the washer button repeatedly to get any fluid pumped. It failed shortly afterwards by spraying on the rear window instead of spraying on the windshield when activated. Not worth saving a few bucks over OEM.
