This was shipped by Amazon it its original box only. When it arrived I saw a big gash on the box. Sure enough, when I opened it there was a major dent in the rim of the firebowl. I immediately called the manufacturer, because the instructions say to call them first before returning it to the retailer. Well they told me to go ahead and contact Amazon for a replacement. I did the return online and it came today. This time the box was placed inside another box with some paper stuffing to protect the inner box. When I opened the box there was no damage. Hopefully, they’ll ship them all like this from now on.This firepit works very well and puts out a lot of heat. The key to getting maximum heat is to make sure that you scatter the small rocks at the very bottom of the bowl. When you start laying the large rocks, do not set them too close to the gas ring. You don’t want to obstruct the holes at all. This will allow the flames to cascade around the larger rocks creating a high flame of 4 - 10 inches. If you let the rocks get too close to the holes the flames won’t be as high. The key is to create a circular tunnel of large rocks over the fire ring.Another bonus is the plastic cover that comes with it. The instructions say to keep it out of the rain and to put it away during rainy weather. Well, I’m too lazy to lug it into the garage every time it rains. When I put the cover on it I was surprised that it covered the whole thing, even the flame-shaped holes on the side. You definitely don’t need to move it inside when it’s raining once the cover is protecting it.I wasn’t keen on the aesthetics of a 20 lb. propane tank sitting out in the open so I also got this deck box to store it in. had to cut out a circle in the bottom so that the tank would fit since the tank is too tall. Now I have a nice looking storage box to house the tank and also to serve as a nice side table. There’s enough room inside to store the firepit cover, a cushion or two, or whatever. There’s a small gap between the bottom and the patio for the hose to fit into so that the hose threads up through the bottom, which you have cut out, and into the tank.Overall, an awesome fire pit. I used it on Thanksgiving night for several hours and didn’t see the gauge on my tank move very much.Update 9/2/15: Still loving this fire pit. I replaced the light weight l lava rocks with regular red lava rocks from my local rock/masonry supplier. Very cheap way to go and the rocks will last forever unlike the ones that are supplied. I'm also adding a picture of the Rubbermaid Brute 44 gallon trash can lid which I use to provide a solid rain cover. It costs only $16 right now for the black one.

I live in Arizona where campground fire bans do occur during hot dry periods. This fire pit allows me to run a fire without violating the law as it produces no fire embers and can be easily turned off with the spin of a knob. I also enjoy its ability to easily pack up and carry it wherever I want. There’s also no ash to deal with as it doesn’t emit smoke, and you don’t walk away with your clothes and skin smelling like smoke. It does emit hot heat, but the majority of the heat tends to go up vertically and not out horizontally to a sitting crowd, so you have to sit within 3 feet or less to really enjoy its heat. I just got it today and have only ran it once, but so far impressed. I was reading a standard 20lb propane tank will give the 58,000 BTU burner around 6-8 hours of burn time depending on the heat setting. The flame isn’t as big as I hoped, but is still good nonetheless and puts off more than enough heat to cook marshmallows, skwewers, and hot dogs. The device appears well built, durable, simplistic in nature with the only two moving parts being the front heat control knob and the attachment knob that spins on the propane tank. Expect it to last many years. You can get this for cheaper at Costco than Amazon and I subsequently only learned this after my product shipped.

Who would make a great product to replace wood burning fire pits during a summers worth of fire bans. A company in Surrey BC built the perfect efficient alternative to wood burning fire pits and I was impressed with the quality of the product and the amount of heat and realistic flame this unit produces. We can use it anywhere, anytime and light enough to toss into the vehicle and bring along on picnics, day trips and of course our camping. No more carrying large amounts of wood, or dealing with smoke and sparks. This fire pit looks realistic and with all the accessories you can buy to enhance your experience it is well worth it.This unit comes with 10’ of hose which rolls up and sits on top of the bowl and a nice waterproof, fireproof cover that conceals everything for transport. We absolutely love this fire pit…Made In Canada, to combat the fire bans we have to endure every summer!!!

Likes - decent size, well made, not crazy heavy so it is easy to move around. Good value for money.Dislikes - like all propane fire pits, it can be a gas hog. I really haven't found anything to complain about.Normally it sits in my yard and FYI, we have synthetic grass - not issues with excess heat melting it even though it is sat directly on it.We take it camping (allowed when fire bans are in affect as there are no sparks) as it turns out, a bottle of propane will comfortably do a 3 day trip (3 hours each day average) and is about the same price as the wood you would buy in the camp grounds anyway.Big bonus, no mess, no building a fire from scratch. NB* like all propane fire pits get one of the BBQ Lighters... it does give a "woosh" when lighting it 😀It comes with enough Lava rocks that I suggest keeping one bag as a spare. They will crack and split over time and require replacement. We have used ours average of Twice a week over the last 6 months and haven't had any issues. It comes with a cover, elasticated nylon with heat reflector on the inside. Let the fire cool completely before using it. One tip, I put a flower pot on the rocks and put the cover over it. Stops the rain from pooling in the cover.

Exceeded our expectations. We used this in the middle of the bush during a fire ban with no issues whatsoever. If used correctly you can make one 20lb tank last you at least two evenings, burning steadily on low/medium. Throws a ton of heat, even after you turn it off as the rocks will continue to radiate for at least another 30-45 minutes. We made percolated coffee and smores on this as well, however I wouldn't reccomend cooking anything else as it does leave a minor propane aftertaste with food. As to be expected though.Looking forward to using this again and again, it is very sturdy and comes assembled. It just requires you to arrange your lava rocks a certain way but overall very simple to transport and use. What a wonderful product!

Have had this unit for a few weeks, assembly was simple, including conversion to NG. Initially flame looked more like my gas stove, very blue, not very aesthetically pleasing (see pics). While this is a very good combustion setup of air to fuel, I wanted the more orange/yellow look, similar to my 2 indoor gas fireplaces. Easy fix, just loosen screw and close air intake screen just behind control knob. This also reduces the sound of rushing gas. Note, this is for NG conversion only.It really is a good unit but doesn’t give off as much heat as you’d expect, so I’ve ordered a vertical patio heater to supplement.Dislikes:- cover looks great, fits well. It is NOT waterproof. We’ve had lot of rain in recent weeks and rocks became saturated. Can’t imagine this will be good when temperatures start to freeze. So an alternative is imperative.- Pricing! Originally saw this unit for $197. Discussed with family before buying, an hour later $214, which I payed. Couple days ago a friend said he’d be interested in buying one. I sent him info last night, listed at $185. This morning it’s $189?Called Amazon Prime cs, couldn’t wouldn’t do anything. I literally have to order lower price unit and return the higher price one. No cost to me. Makes no sense but I save $30 or 15+%. And someone will be out a lot of shipping $$$. And sadly I won’t even take the new one out of the box, just stick the return label and take it to PO.If Outland reaches out to me on this, I’ll be happy to revise this review. Stay tuned...
