When my kiddo started learning a new language this year, their teacher's preferred method was good old-fashioned flashcards. So, as part of our back-to-school supply haul, we grabbed this black index card box — and seven months later, I’m happy to report it’s holding up like a champ.And that’s really saying something, considering it’s spent most of its days being shoved into a giant backpack, commuting between home and school. Despite the rough ride, it hasn’t cracked, bent, or fallen apart. Major win.Not only is this little box impressively sturdy, but I’m also thrilled to report my 7th grader is crushing it in Latin. So, kudos to the box — and even bigger kudos to my kiddo.

When I first got this, I thought it was crap. It would not stay closed. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle to send it back. I use it for grocery coupons and the last thing you need in the store or to/from the parking lot is the top opening. To my surprise, like many good wines, it improved, with age. You actually have to use the latch to open it--instead of just staring at it like at first (that's only a slight exaggeration). Anyway, I'm perfectly satisfied with it now.

This is a utilitarian item. It serves the purpose of holding 4x6" index cards. The box itself seems sturdy but the lid lock is its downfall. I usually just leave it open because the hinges are flimsy and seem likely to break.

I bought this box to use as a recipe box and it is perfect. It stays closed when not is use and has a indent on the top of the box where the recipe card can stay when it is being used.

I am sure that after a while, the plastic will break at the hinge point, but until then it works fine, and is good as an inexpensive functional device. High enough for 4x6 cards with an inch to spare for dividers with labels sticking up. The bottom and top have this strange lip and groove thing going, not sure why, maybe they are supposed to stack, but doesn’t interfere with its function. Stays shut when snapped shut, holds well, and to open you have to sort of press just beneath where the lid snaps, and lift the lid. You’ll get used to it if you play around a bit.

This has already eliminated the unorganized clutter of my most frequently used recipes on my counter; plus, the slot on top lets me read my card as I bake. There is enough room inside to easily flip through 4x6 cards even if they are in protector sleeves. It is cheaper & weighs less than a wooden recipe box & food spatters are easily wiped off of the plastic. Now, I don't have to drag out my heavy, cumbersome 'favorite recipe' book for my most-used recipes. Every kitchen should have one of these.

The index card box was the correct size, but I wasn't totally satisfied with the design and sturdiness of it, as well as its capacity. The price is comparable to similar boxes, but there was a bow in the latch area that didn't line up with the other half so you have to finagle it a bit to get it to close. Just a bit annoying.

I have been looking for a recipe file box, but they, to me, were expensive. I decided to get this box and I couldn't be happier. It is good heavy plastic and it even has a slit on top to put your recipe in while you are cooking! You can't see it in their picture of the box, so when I opened the package, that was the first thing I say and it made me so happy! I highly recommend as either a 4 x 6 file box or recipe box!!
