I built my own kalimba using a piece of solid walnut and this tine set. I had no idea if it would even work. But it turned out amazing!! I don’t know if it’s the walnut or the tines but the combination is giving my Lingting a run for it’s money! The wood is only 3/4 “ thick and the clarity and resonance is just beautiful. And with a pickup and amp it really shines. I will be ordering more sets from this vendor as I try different kinds of wood to see how they sound. It’s a lot cheaper than buying a ready made kalimba and fun to make. I highly recommend this tine set!

The product looks ok, but the wood is not the same as the pictures. Pictures show what looks to be sapele or mahogany and are a dark red color. wood components I received are light toned and appear to be oak or beech. Both components have chip-out from poor machining. Buyer beware.The real issue is the lack of any instructions. I assumed they would at least provide the spacing between the z-bracket and the saddle/bridge. Reached out to the seller and they told me to search videos on the internet.I based my measurements off a friends Kalimba. I spaced the backstop and the bridge exactly 1" apart. Will update when the instrument is finished. I hope it works!

Really do not like the system used for bending the keys. Very difficult to assemble and tune. Attachment screws are UNDER the keys. Decided not to use this item.

Wood parts of the bridge don't come with a dark stain. You'll get plain wood pieces. Should've noticed in the customer pictures I guess.I bought this kit specifically to match my dark kalimba so that's why this purchase is a 1/5.

The keys are well made, and they sound quite good. They have both numbers and letters for reading either kind of tabs. If you have some basic woodcraft skills, it's pretty intuitive to set it all up with just a hand drill and screw driver. I mounted it on an inexpensive hardwood cutting board instead of a resonator box, and I can really feel the vibrations buzzing in my hands through the wood. Sounds as good as a $100 manufactured kalimba. For a less than a dollar extra, and maybe 10 more minutes of crafting work, I made a jingle chain with two eye hook screws, and thin chain from the hobby store.

Disappointed that the 17 keys only had numbers stamped on them, unlike the pictured keys that had numbers and note designation stamped on the keys. Also there are no instructions, just the parts. The quality seems fine my major complaint is the description does not fit the product received.
