Having several aquariums, and especially a reef tank with live corals, I'd been wanting one of these for the longest time, so I can learn about where to place certain corals in my tank, as well as understand the intensity and spread of certain kinds of different reef lights. These lights and corals can tend to get extremely expensive, so I just wanted to know what i was investing in, before going and spending that amount of money!Opening this meter, i immediately noticed that both components feel extremely light and hollow. I'm not sure what i was expecting, but they definitely are not heavy or solid in the hand. I was surprised and immediately concerned because I was hoping that this is not cheaply made from just hollow and weak plastic pieces. It took me a while to figure out how it functions and which buttons to press. After reading the manual and testing out the hand held a few times, it then finally began reading correctly and accurately!I was really surprised again, how well it actually works! Upon further research, I learned that there is an extension cord that can be used for the handheld reader if you're trying to read in longer distances, and there is even an attachment that can be purchased for taking PAR readings underwater. That is the component that I really need!I took several readings of a few of my plant lights, and some tank lights inside of the tank when doing water changes, with a lowered water level. but I will need to learn how to factor in the refraction of light when going through a body of water. But with this Leader, at least I now have the basics and have something to start off with! I definitely recommend this reader, and also advise to not judge it just based off of how it physically feels. It may feel very light, unsold, and cheaply constructed, however it reads accurately, fast, and works without any issues! I now, really love this reader and find it useful for all kinds of projects and reasons!✴ OVERALL RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ FIVE STARS! ————————————————♡》》》 IN SUMMARY: if you're considering it, go ahead and get it. it's a great investment, and there are so many different additional components that you can purchase to adapt it for whatever use you're needing it for. it takes a little bit to learn how to use it and get an accurate reading, but once you're used to it, it's extremely easy to use. don't be quick to judge just from the feel of it, and while it's NOT one of those extremely expensive, sensitive, and high tech readers, it still works wonderfully, and accomplishes it's purpose! it's perfect for what i needed it for! ♡

This is a really good meter if you just need to measure PPFD, that is basically it's only feature other than hold. It measures only the wavelengths of light that plants mostly use for growth. I have another PPFD sensor which I tested this against and this one is very close in measurement to the other, the other also gives you a breakdown of the % of RGB which is nice and I wish this one had that feature. What I like about this one more is that the sensor is detached, my other one it is attached and it makes getting readings harder.This comes with the curly cable shown as well as one that is more like an old phone cord, I'd say it is at least 3 feet long, maybe longer. which is nice for measuring at a further distance. This PPFD meter seems to be pretty accurate so far.I switched out several of my LED grow lights which I thought were good, this meter helped me discover they were using more electricity and giving less output. I switched from older LED to newer LED, it is amazing how fast the technology is progressing and without this meter I would have remained clueless. I like starting my garden plants indoors and with this I can figure out which ones are better and also take measurements at different distances to pinpoint the best distance to keep my lights. Now my seedlings are not all stretchy and weak looking anymore. Before I was afraid of getting the lights too close, they looked bright LOL. Now I can better judge exactly where to place them. I can also use search engines and AI to help me figure out how man Micromoles of PPFD each type of plant needs. Lettuce needs less than peppers and tomatoes for example.

This is such a great tool to have on hand to monitor lighting for indoor gardening and hydroponics. The Quantum PAR Meter appears well made and is easy to use. It does not come with a carrying case. You're expected to store it in the box it came in. The accompanying instruction book is actually a leaflet. Turn the meter on, press the UP arrow button and take your measurement. The results are repeatable on everything I've tested. I have no way of knowing how accurate the results are but they are repeatable. How reliable the PAR meter is during the next few months remains to be seen.The PAR meter is not calibrated to NIST reference standards. It has a 1 year warranty.
