I purchased the Park Tool HMR-8 Shop Hammer to use while working on my MTB. The hammer is really well made, nothing less than you’d expect from Park Tool. The 8 oz (225g) head is forged steel w/a machined striking face (1 inch [25mm] diameter). The other side of the head has a replaceable composite plastic tip (1.25 inch [32mm] diameter) (Part# 293-8), that did not damage the finish on my cranks when I used it. The hammer feels good in hand, well balanced w/the 12 inch (30.5cm) fiberglass shaft & soft, grippy rubber grip. The HMR-8 is not a big hitter, but is perfect for throwing in your trailhead toolkit. It’s obviously too big & heavy to take out on the trail. It would be a good addition to a home bike shop to use on those stubborn parts like the cranks, some bottom brackets & other parts that need a bit of coaxing. If you’re looking for a lighter hammer to add to your bike toolkit & want a hammer that will last a lifetime, the Park Tool HMR-8 is definitely a great option.Thank you for taking the time to read my review, I hope you found it helpful.

As one often prone to cheap out on things the thought of taking a hammer to a bike with a carbon frame to do some work on the cranks and bottom bracket led even me to purchase this Park Tool hammer, it was worth the price for the peace of mind.Worked fine for the the intended use, safe to say no bikes were injured during the maintenance - your mileage may vary !

Great bike shop hammer. Seems to be the perfect weight for anything I need to do on bikes.

If you're belting the crap out of things on the daily, this is not the correct choice. However, if you need a mobile, lightweight implement for applying minor striking force in a certain spot - this is the one. I'm a machinery mechanic, and needed a smaller option for my carry bag that had the hard steel face, but also the option of the nylon non-marking face. I use it for assembly work and light hammering only. I have a plethora of bigger hammers for beating the snot out of everything else.

Nicely made, excellent quality as expected from Park Tool. Weight feels just right in the hand, and I particularly like that one side of the hammer head has a replaceable plastic face on it - I've used the hammer many times already for knocking out stubborn, stuck cranksets and it does not damage the threads on the crank axle.

There is something very classy about Park Tools when you're a bike mechanic, I assume Snap-Ons feel the same for an automobile or diesel mechanic. This mallet works great, but even when I'm not using it I enjoy having it.

I use this for general maintenance. It's great to have a hardened steel head and a non marring head on the same tool.

Buena compra.
