Would be 5 starts but can be better packaged to prevent damage. Looks to be exact OEM replacement and operating for 3 months with no issues. Bought a spare for future as parts obsolescence, and delivery when needed can be hassle for small money a good part to have handy. I replaced proactively as the original was 10+ years old... I cleaned it and also kept as a spare! .. this is a fairly easy DIY if comfortable with basic tools and electrical components and following safety rules. Even if you call a technician having a spare especially for older units can save a second trip and more $$ !!

There are several “OEM replacement†sensors offered at a lower cost. This is a true OEM part from Trane. If you are remotely mechanically inclined, have a properly sized nut driver, and have the manual for your furnace (if this is your first time replacing the flame sensor you may need to refer to it for location of the sensor), this installs in 5 minutes or less. Fixes “double start†issue or “short ignition†issue. You can sometimes get by with cleaning carbon build up off the existing sensor, but for under $15 it is better to replace with OEM new.

I bought this when my furnace would not stay on. It would fire-up, run for a few moments, shut down again, and repeat. After doing a couple minutes of searching online it seamed reasonable to believe that the issue was the flame sensor / thermocouple. I removed the existing one to confirm that it looks like this uint (make sure the furnace is completely off!). Then, without touching the end that measures the heat (the long metal end with the 90 degree bend), I cleaned it with steel wool to get the furnace back up and running short term. This worked great and we had heat immediate after putting the furnace back together. I installed the new sensor when it arrived and it is working great.

Perfect replacement part for Trane unit, looks exactly the same as the original part I removed. Recommended to change this part when you see some carbon residue on it to avoid any damage to your main PC board just remember is cheap to change this instead of having to change the PC board which cost $300+
