works great but document doesn't state whether or not you can use both ports

Got this card to install an M.2 drive in an Asus small form factor motherboard that didn't have a screw mounted to secure down the SSD. Works great!

As cheap as they get, you get what you paid for. PCIe edge connector is not gold plated as in the product pictures but simply tinned. Ground pins on connector are tinned together in a sloppy manner. SATA connector is even cheaper than tin connectors. I would never plug this in any PC. Off it goes back. For a few dollars more you can get much nicer adapter.

Pros: Inexpensive and easy to use. Just screw on the correct size of case slot cover to match your PC case, connect your M.2 drive and screw in the retention bushing to hold the drive in place. Install in your PCIe slot on your motherboard and presto you have another M.2 slot. Good speeds, my bios recognized it as a bootable drive (if you wanted to use it for your main drive slot). I'm not sure that all motherboards would be compatible booting from the PCIE interface so your mileage may vary.FYI: I just used the NVMe/PCIE portion, not the SATA portion. I do see reviews that the item doesn't utilize "both slots"....well I think they possibly aren't using it correctly. The SATA slot clearly is not compatible with NVMe drives. They are two different connections. The SATA portion also clearly states that it requires the SATA data cable to be attached to a SATA port on the motherboard in order to work. I would assume the SATA drive just draws power from the PCIE slot in that case. I don't have a SATA M.2 to test, but I'd bet you could use both slots at the same time as long as you had one drive as NVMe and the other as SATA with the SATA data cable properly attached to the motherboard. PCIEx4 slots can provide 25 watts of power and the M.2 spec caps the power usage at 7 watts per connection you'd have plenty of juice to run both at the same time.Cons: The brass bushings that hold the M.2 drives down are small and can be difficult to manipulate. It would be nicer if they just used the rubber inserts that pop in and hold the drive in place than fiddling with tiny metal screws and bushings. Wish it had two NVMe instead of one SATA as M.2 SATA drives aren't as common.

You have to use the sata Port if you're using the old style M2 drive and if you're using a newer drive it just works via the PCI bus. I plugged it in it worked it did its job no complaints at all.The important part of this was that I was able to rescue the data on a failed drive from a backup. I will definitely be using this again.

Initial install on an Asus Rampage Formula IV motherboard with an Intel i7 3930kUsed PCIe 8x lane with M.2 mount. Ubuntu Server 24.04 could see the drive during install and was able to install the OS to the M.2 drive - that said, the bios was (as I expected) not able to boot from the drive once installation was complete.2nd OS install was with just the SATA slot filled using the pictured SSD. With the SATA cable connected there was no issue with installation or post installation boot into the Ubuntu OS.After OS installation, I removed the card, added the 1TB Rocket drive for additional storage, and was confronted with a GRUB error telling me the drive/partition containing the boot information was no longer attached.I have set all other drives in fstab with mounds using UUID as this will prevent (one hopes) Linux from reassigning drive destinations through sda - that worked for everything but the boot drive. The addition of the second drive continues to eliminate the SATA connected drive and boot OS.I will keep trying. All that said, good shipping speed, excellent price point, and so far very reliable.

So first off, when I received this card, I was concerned about the item itself as the box seemed repurposed and damaged. Wondered if the card was intact, also damaged, and/or if it was a return. Seemed to be okay and I installed two types of SSDs, a Sata Drive and an NVMe type. Both are seen by the PC. The Sata drive is seen in my BIOS and the 2TB WD is not. Both are seen by disk manager. Because the NVMe is not seen by my BIOS, it cannot be configured as my boot drive, unless I am missing something. The Crucial Sata has speeds over 500 and the WD NVMe clocked in at over 1500 speeds.

Bought two of these for adding in extra M.2's via PCIE lanes. Yet to test them as they were more of a side project.Brilliant build quality and sturdy too.Not expensive either. One M key and one B Key so one m.2 is straight PCIE then the other is handled by SATA.
