Kindly Note:
1. When using a hand drill or drill press, it is recommended that you use a pen centering vise (not included) to help secure the pen blank. It also helps to use a pen centering vise for better accuracy when drilling with the Pen Barrel Trimmer.
2. If you are using a hand drill, we recommend securing the blank into a workbench vise if a pen centering vise is not available to you. The kit includes a 3/4 inch cutting Head, 7mm, 8mm, 3/8 inch, 10mm Pilot Cutter Shaft, 0 Size Adaptor Sleeve and a Hex Key Wrench for the cutting head.
3. One of the most critical steps in turning top quality pens is squaring the ends of your pen blanks to provide a perfect, gap free mating surface for the pen kit parts. With the Tackpro Pen Mills, this step is quick and easy. The Tackpro Pen Mill features a sharp, 3/4\"-diameter carbon steel trimmer head for squaring blanks and pilot shafts that clean excess glue from inside the brass tubes.

Uhhh... forget to tighten it down! Accidentally forgot, was messing about with hunks of cherry off the tree in back. Uneven bits caught on the tool rest and bent the entire thing sideways Oops! That was user error and I'm grateful the thing bent and it didnt kill the motor on the ShopMate SO...having now purchased and used TWICE, you can turn pens on this. On a ShopMate.It's so fun! Just go for it! You'll have a blast. And you can use the mess you make for plant mulch!

I bought this cutter to use with a mill sleeve set. Dedicated cutters work better (and I will continue to use them for the common sizes used a lot) but for the oddball sizes I only need once in a while this gets the job done.

The other reviews were right-- the cutter arrived very dull. You can tell by the uneven way it "cut" the brass barrel. Plan on sharpening it. I mostly needed it for the various shaft sizes since I do have another cutter head.

Do not buy this product if you expect it to work out of the box. All it did was burnish the pen blank. I had to hand stone the cutting edges to make it useable. I am new to woodturning and thought I was messing something up. Was able to get it working after sharpening on a stone. The angles are hard to maintain by hand, but got it sharp enough to get the job done.

This is really great but there's a few nuances that I'll share for newbies like myself.#1 Be sure to tighten the allen key really well before you try to trim your blanks - if you don't, it'll end up spinning around and somehow get caught and it just becomes a mess.#2 Be really careful how far you trim, it seems really easy, but even on hard woods (purple heart etc) its really easy to go just a smidge too deep, then it snags the brass bushing and rips it out, even if you glued it in.#3 This goes without saying, but don't hold the blank in your hand to do this. Even using a vice, if you're drilling into a really hard wood, you're going to struggle to get this to bite. It'll do the work, but it takes some force. I'm using it on a drill press and its still a bit shifty at times. Getting things lined up STRAIGHT is really important.
