DGD Series Cartridges are designed for purity and will not impart taste, odor or color to the liquid being filtered. Additionally, the polypropylene construction provides superior chemical resistance. The DGD Series' advanced design combines selective final filtration with appropriate pre-filtration to achieve up to three times the dirt holding capacity of similar size sediment cartridges and even greater capacity than standard spun or string-wound cartridges. The larger diameter of the filter reduces the particle load, allowing it to operate at higher velocities. The effective filter depth is increased to a full 233%. This increased depth provides very high particulate reduction efficiencies and added loading capacity. The design and performance characteristics of the DGD Series Cartridges make them an excellent choice for all residential, rural, municipal and commercial applications.

I couldn't find filter type purchased when having new whole-house water system originally installed. Found this filter which appeared to be similar with same dimensions and much cheaper so purchased it. Had installed in place of old dirty filter and works wonderfully well so will order more when needing to replace filter on regular basis per directions. Price is right and so is quality!

I have a lot of iron in my well water. I have a water softener followed by a sediment filter. I have tried so many filters I lost count. I was lucky to get four to six weeks out of them. This filter lasted three months. I might have been able to get another few weeks out of it, but I'm happy if I only have to change it every three months. If you have a lot of iron in your water I highly recommend this filter.

I’ve been using these “dual gradient†whole house water filters for more than 15 years to remove any sediment from our well water. The benefit of a dual gradient filter is they act like two separate filters – the first layers remove larger sediment (e.g. silt, sand) down to 25 microns and the inner layer removes tiny particles –down to 5 microns. These filters do not remove chemicals or improve taste – they simply remove particles/sediment from the water. When our well was first dug, I had to change filters every 2~3 months. Within a year, that slowed to 4~6 months, now after 20 years – I typically change the filter annually, or sooner if I notice a pressure drop. I also have a 3-stage filter system under the kitchen sink for drinking/cooking/ice-cube water which filters to 1 micron and removes bacteria and viruses.Note: The more sediment that is in your water, the more often you will need to change your filter. Some reviewers complained that their filters clogged after only a few months… gee, that is what a filter is supposed to do.Pentair does make another model (DGD-2501) dual gradient filter with a 25 micron prefilter and 1 micron final filter. If I didn’t have separate drinking water filtration system, I would use the DGD-2501 filter – knowing that I would need to change it more often. I highly recommend the Pentair Pentek family of water filters!

The Pentek DGD-5005 whole house filter insert is a very good replacement for OEM "Big Blue" filters, and is a much better performing filter that the conventional "pleated" designed filters. Living with a high-iron water well system, we have been replacing the old-style pleated filters every month or so. Even at that they tend to be saturated and about to disintegrate during replacement. We tried these spun polypropylene filters from Pentek and were pleasantly surprised. The first filter was change after 11 weeks of use, with no observable decrease in water pressure, and only the outer layers were beginning to show retention of sand grit and other material. The inner, more dense portion of the filter was virtually in original, fully clean condition! The price of these filters through Amazon is about the same as the conventional pleated design filters. We're convinced these filters will perform well for at least 3 months ( 3x longer than the pleated design filter) with no signs of deterioration. We will be maintaining a ready supply for all our future water filter needs.

Great quality by Pentair as always. There were zero fitment issues, and at the 3 month inspection there were no concerns with any water bypassing around the filter. This was used in a 10" APEC water filter housing and the fitment was flawless.

This Pentair 5 micron filter really does the job to remove sediment from my 325 ft deep well. It's installed just prior to my Pentair water treatment system. I change it every 6 months and I'm just amazed at what is filtered-out.
