I was able to make this tool work with a telescoping wheel by temporarily inserting a 1/4" x 1" rod in the hole at the end of the shaft. (I cut a piece from a 1/4" drill bit).

This thing might release the steering wheel of a cheap piece of modern automotive junk, but it WILL NOT work on a ‘78 Chevy. It fits on there fine, but this cheap piece of fake metal will not release the column before it twists and strips out. After decades of being stuck in one place, with the column basically locked in, you need a steering wheel remover that can actually do the job. That is NOT this. Not even close.

Item worked like it is supposed to. I had to replace my key ignition switch in my 1994 Silverado K1500 and this tool worked great!
